Games were played in which Miss Mary C. Leonard was successful in winwing the Wse. After this, the hostess served dainty refreshment. CARPE DIEM BIRTHDAY DINNER The Carpe Diem Club enjoyed a delightful dinner party, Tuesday evening, at. 0:30 o’clock, at the home of Mrs. Alva Lawson. The dinner was carried out in attractive George' Washington suggestions. Each small table was centered by an artificial cherry tree, and small cherry trees in pots were given as favors. This was a birthday party far all members present, and birthday gifts were exchanged. Each member also paid into the club treasury’, as many pennies as they were years old. a delightful George Washington Diu- : ner Bridge. The five tables were beautifully decorated In patriotic olors, the napkins, place cards, and nut cups being of George Washington appointments. At six-thirty o’clock, a most delicious dinner was served in four courses by the hostesses, assisted by Mrs. Appleman, and Misses Matilda and Cecelia Appleman. The tables were arranged for Bridge, following the dinner and prizes for high scores awarded to Miss Helena Meyers. Miss Gene Murtagh, Mrs. Dick Ehinger and Mrs. Vincent Borman. The So Cha Raes will suspend their meetings during Lent. The Delta Theta Tau Sorority will hold their regular business meeting Monday evening at 7:30 o'clock at the home of Miss Beatrice Keller, North Fourth street. TRI KAPPAS VOTE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD The Tri Kappa Sorority enjoyed a delightful 6:30 o’clock pot -luck dinner Tuesday evening, at the home of Miss Lucile Engle, southeast of the city. After the dinner, a business meeting was held. It was voted to give a scholarship award of sls to the senior girl who has the best scholastic standing for her four years of high school work. This will be made an annual affair. Plans were also discussed ' for the style Show, to be held in March at the Adams theatre and reports of committees were 'heard. Mrs. Paul Sauer and Miss Ruth Engle became active in the Sorority. It was also decid- : ed that every three months, the members of the Sorority whose birthday , falls within that period, must entertain the other members at a Birthday Party? Bridge furnished diversion for the remainder of the evening. ' I T- ( The Little Light Bearers of the Presbyter ian church, will meet at the Manse at 3:30 P. M. Thursday. FARWELL DINNER FOR FORMER S. S. TEACHER The Mary and Martha class of the Methodist Sunday school, entertained at a farewell dinner, Tuesday evening, at 6:30 o’clock in the church parlors, in honor of Mrs. Emma Daniels who was teacher of the class when it was first organized. Mrs. Emma Daniels expects to leave shortly for New York City and will go thence, in the Spring, I io California, where she will make her permanent home. The dinner was serv- | ed at 6:30 o'clock and covers were laid for forty-one persons. Mrs. Anna Millot, class president, presided over the meeting, and called on the preI sent class teacher, Mrs. F. W. Downs ■ Mrs. R. D Myers and Mrs Daniels for , talks. The honored guest was preseutj ed with a dozen roses by the class. ENTERTAINS BRIDGE CLUB Mis. L. A. Graham was hostess to her Biidge Club, Tuesday afternoon, at her home on North Fourth street. Mrs. Harry Moltz and Miss Rose Christen were guests other than the club members. High score for the afternoon was won by Mrs. George Flanders At the close of the games, the hostess served a most delicious dinner, after which the guests tarried for a social hour. Mis. Wm Schlock will be hostess to the Thursday Night club, tomorrow evening at her home on South Second street, at 8:00 o’clock. M.RS. PETERSON ENTERTAINS BRIDGE CLUB Mrs. J. S. Peterson was hostess to the Tuesday Afternoon Biidge Club, yesterday at her heme on West Jeffeison stieet. Miss Emily Crist, Mrs. Wm. Bowers, and Mrs. I. A. Kalver were guests other than the Club membeis. Mis. J. H. Heller had high score for the afternoon and Mrs. John Peterson had high score for the series. The hostess seived a delicious two-course luncheon of Gecrge Washington appointments, at the close of the games. Small hatchets were given as favors. DONATE TO CHARITY Mrs. Arthur Holthtuse delightfully entertained the Psi lota Xi Sorority, Tuesday evening, at her home on Sixth stieot. Plans were made for the annual Inspection to bo held March «. L. of S's entertained guests. Tuesday evening, at a social party held at the K. of C. tlall. At 6:30 o'clock, h most delicious pot-iuck supper was served, after which tables were arranged- for cards. In Five Hundred, Mrs. Beecher Meibers and Mrs. Wilbur Shanahan received the club prizes, and Mis. Barbara Bremerkanip won the guest piize. The Young People’s Bible class of the Evangelical Church, met Tuesday evening at the home of Miss Mary Macy, on Winchester street. Ten members were present. Following the business session, the Rev. R. W. Loose, teacher of the claiw. gave a talk in which he stressed the fact that the first duty is soul development.. A social hour was then enjoyed and various games were played. At the close of the evening, the hostess served delicious refreshments. o FIX BLAME FOR 8-4 DISASTER Washington, Feb. 22 —(U.R) —A naval court of inquiry at last has placed blame for the loss of .40 men in the submarine S-4, which was sunk off Provincetown. Mass., by the coast guard destroyer Paulding on Dec. 17. Major responsibility for the crash was placed on the late Lieut. Commander R. K. Jones of the S-4, although Lieut. Commander John S. Bayliss of the Paulding likewise incurred “serious blame.” The court held that Rear Admiral Brumby should be relieved frdm command of the control force of which the S-4 was part, because he lacked knowledge of submarine construction to conduct the rescue intelligently. Controversy already has started over the court's report. Secretary Wilbur ordered the court reconvened to consider further its findings. o Personal’; Ben Eiting, Mrs. Joe Lose and daughter Mary Helen, Frank Schmitz, and daughter Viola and Patsy Teeple attended the basketball game between the Commodores and St, Rose high of Lima, Ohio, at Lima last night. Viola Schmitz, Patsy Teeple and Mary Helen Lose spent the night in Lima and planned to return to Decatur tonight. Mrs. C. V. Connell returned home today, from Indianapolis, where she visited for the past week with her daughter, Mrs. Thotri Lcnahan and family. - 1 Dr. and Mrs. Earl Coverdale, of this city, and Dr., and Mrs. H. O. Jones, of Berne, were Tuesday afternoon aud evening visitoi-s in Fort Wayne. H. L. Miss Myitle Fuhrman, Decatur loute 9, underwent a major operation Tuesday night, at the hospital ami is getting along nicely. Mrs. Cail Buyer, ot' Geneva, is recovering from a minor operation which she underwent at the hospital. Mrs. Mary Archbold. 712 North Fifth street, is in a very critical condition and is a patient at the hospital. Orbe Dm bin, route 9, Decatur, is a medical jratient at the hospital. John Moore, 1203 West Monroe stieet. is undergoing medical treatment. and is a patient at the Adams County Memorial hospital. Mrs. Amanda Moats, North Ninth street is receiving medical care at the Adams County Memorial hospital, and is in a serious condition. SINCLAIR GETS 6-MONTH TERM Government Marks Down Fourth Victory In Its Six Oil Trials By Herbert IJttle UP Staff Correspondent Washington, Feb. 22 (U.R) The government marked down today its fourth victory in six oil trials, and Harry F. Sinclair, multimillionaire, center of the Teapot Dome scandal, contemplated jail sentences totalling nine months imposed upon him in two of the cases. Justice Frederick L. Siddons in District of Columbia supreme court imposed a six-month sentence on Sinlair late yesterday as the climax of the long contempt of court case resulting from the magnate's employment of Burns detestives to shadow Fall-Sinclair trial jurors. Henry Mason Day, Sinclair agent in the jury espionage, was sentenced to four months; William J. Burns, famous detective who made false charges that the government had approached a Fall-Sinclair juror, got 15 days; and his son, W. Sherman Burns, executive of the agency which provided the jury-shadowers, was let off with a SI,OOO fine. All four were free on bond today, having noted appeals and put up bond after Justice Siddons scathingly denounced their jury-spying and imposed sentences. o Magley Quartet Sings At Lions Club Meeting The Magley male quartet provided an interesting program at the regular weekly meeting of the Decatur Lions Chib last night. The quartet is composed of John Hilgeman, William Kfeutzman. Lewis Worthman and Ernest Woi thman. Felix Graber was the chairman in charge of the meeting last night. In addition to the music by the Magley quartet. William Linn, cl thier, gave a talk on medicine, while Dr. B. F. Beavers physician, discussed the clothing business. State Case Continued The case ut the state vs. Emil Budersteber was continued on motion of the defendant. ■ - o— Pleasant Dale Plans Missionary Meeting Mrs. Flora Ross and Mrs. Alice King Eby will speak Sunday morning at the Pleasant Dale Church and a steiecptican lecture will be given in the evening at 7:30 o’clock. Mrs. Ross is a returned missionary and sister to Dr. Barbara Nickey, who is at present a Missionary in charge of the medical work at Dahanu, India. She has spent 18 years in India, Mrs. Alice King Eby, who has spent 30 years on the field and has had unusual experience as a Missionary, especially among women and children, will tell something of her work. The People ot the community are invited to attend. There will be Missionary pictures shown in the evening at 7:30 o'clock.
