Miller, of Anderson n itt been hired to referee the game, but ho did not understand that the game was to start iarly so that Jeff could catch a certain iar for I afayette, and was late in arriving. The Jefferson officials insisted that another referee be obtained so that the game could start early, as planned. As a result. Cash was called upon to referee until Miller arrived md then umpire the remainder of the jame. which he did. The Portland Panthers, who play the Yellow Jackets hero Saturday night meet the Ridgeville team at Portland onight. Portland papers have made io comment on the battle here Saturday night. "We're sorry to heat that Herbst, Swihart and possibly Kreigh, of the Ossian Bears, may not get to play any nore basketball this year as a result While that decisio nenmes as severe blow- to the Ossian fans, no doubt the ichool authorities fee) justified in action. We do not know all the details and don't dare to. Our only comment is hat if the school authorities feel the mnishment is merited, so be It. Character building in high school is far more important that the winning of a >all game or sectional tourney—yea rven a state tourney. The building of character in boys and girls and not the building of teams is the main object of our schools." —Out of Bounds, Bluffton Banner. Coach Curtis tried to postpone the ■fame between the Yellow Jackets second team and the Jefferson varsity, from tonight to Saturday night, so that he would have a good preliminary for the Portlaud-Decatur game, but tile Jefferson officials did not wish to make the change. As a result, no preliminary has been arranged, so far, ’or tomorrow night, but the coach said there would be some entertainment for the fans before the big game starts. The game between the Decatur seconds and the Hoagland varsity scheduled to be played at Hoagland Saturday night have been postponed until Tuesday night. Bippus and Union Center, two Huntington county teams, have asked for a gajne with the yellow Jackets to fill in the date left dpen by the cancellation of the Huntington gpme. No game has been scheduled so far. The Commodores will doll up in brand new uniforms, including sweat shirts ami pants, before they take the floor against Bellevue tonight. CONTEMPT TRIAL NEARING AN END 1 I Defense In Sinclair-Burns Contempt Case Rests This Morning Washington, Feb. 17—(INS) — The pud of tile long-drawn-out contempt, trial of Harry F. Sinclair, millionaire oil man, William'.). Burns, international detective, and their associates neared today, when the defense rested its case, and the government offered no rebuttal testimony. The case, which has dragged for more than tcu weeks through a legal labyrinth in district supreme court, grew out of tho shadowing of the jury i nthe oil conspiracy trial of Sinclair and ex-secretary of the interior Albert B. Fall. The government cited the defendants for contempt, alleging Burns detectives, hired by Sinclair, had maintained improper and illegal surveillance over the jury, which resulted in a mistrial being declared. o American League Scores New York, t 43; Fort Wayne 33. o — American League Results Philadelphia 35, Brooklyn 27. — Q ONE THOUSAND MEMBERS GOAL OF COMMITTEE (COMTINCED FROM P4OE OVE) 15.00 WILL BE RETURNED INFULL."
