We believed the groundhog all the time and the spring weather of the past few days didn’t fool us a bit. Now they are going to investigate where the democrats got their money and what they did with it. There is news for you for most of you probably thought the democrats didn’t need or use any of the “root of all i evil." Lets give a real Old Home Week, such an occasion as will make every 1 other town in the country wonder ( how we can do it. The community that is different, more original and more energetic is sure to stay ahead of the procession. Earl Crawford, a former member of the state highway commission is a candidate for the democratic nomination for governor. Evidently there are a lot of fellows who seem to think this is to be an easy year for the democrats in Indiana. Colonel Lindbergh's “Spirit of St. Louis" has flown four hundred and eighty-one hours and is still in good condition. If you need a plane, we recommend one just like Lindy's for we feel sure that is as many hours as most of us will spend in the air the next few years. Stepehnson has finally been persuaded to tell what he knows about the attempt to bribe Governor McCray. Its rather unusual but for some reason or other several wit- i nesses seem to be afraid to tell what tney know. They should speak up and tell the truth. Whatever it is) lets hear it mid get it over with. gt-T- j.i We get sfck and tired of writing-* about Jackspn and Stephenson and Qie rest of those now before the pub-' l)c. but as long as they furnish the | news of tilt- day, there is no way to’ get away Irom it and tell you the happenings. In other words, we don’t. make the news, we simply record it, sometimes expressing an opinion on i the events in these columns. Two flights across the Atlantic, one ' to the south pole and another to the jungles <»f Brazil have been announced. There seems to be a Ipt of folks in this ijuuntry who want 1o do some- ' tiling to attract attention. We <-Wn Ityurd <>f a fellow who broke into th : npws <*)lutnns the other day by turnRig cl'* i u hundred and some somersaults. Sixgy acres of as good dirt as can, bu found in the middle west will be ’ sold at the court house door Saturday aft<sruoon. We again call your uttenfiou to the fact that such sales glide you the opportunity to wake a re»l Investment which is as safe as' 11A; government- The millions in this j country must be fed and its such firrms us this that must fegd them. 1 Setter investigate it. Come on folks, lets make the Old t Home Week Club the best get-to-j I gether organizafion ever formed In Indiana. You will get the details tn ' llii- next day or-two. Read tile letter you received carefully, then take a! look al the advertisement in thispaper on Friday and send in your
[applicatiou. Its to be more than pu Old Home Week, its to be a genuine | cooperation that will put Decatur on I the map in more ways than one. ■■ - .' Now juHt when they want Hoover . before the Investigating eonfinittee ( | in Washington, we learn he has gone on a fishing trip to Florida. Truth is j these big fellows fish a large part of the time, but we don't hear of it ex- > cept when they are called for and I.don’t answer. Os course Mr. Hoover ' has a right to go fishing if he wants l : i' to but we thought he was so busy he i wouldn't even think of indulging in ' such a sport. George E. Hershman, a member of the state highway commission and a candidate for the democratic governorship nomination, will speak at the meeting of the Decatur Industrial Association next Monday evening. He has promised to tell us what we should do to secure the east and west road through this county and he will help us, which fact makes his appearance here a very important one. The election of a new board of directors will be held at this meeting and every booster should be present. Hickman smiled when the newspaper cameras clicked his picture after receiving his sentence to die April 27th and he never w flicked an eyelash when the judge told Him lie must answer with his life for his terrible deed. He is a hard hearted criminal and the world will be better off without him. The officials of California deserve congratulations for the speed with which this murderer was brought to jUßtirt? and it is to lie hoped that there will not be any unnecessary delay in carrying out the s. ntence. Senator Ferris of Michigan, wants to go away some where, any place, just so he won't have to listen to endless, senseless speeches and we don't blame him. We feel like that ourselves sometimes after reading them. Mr. Ferris, a great educator, statesman and friend of the people went to the senate six years ago, sincere in his desire to do something worth while, and though an orator of more than ordinary ability iias made but three speeches during all the years he has served. He is most too sincere to tit well in the United States senate just now. o- **¥*¥♦»*****♦ * BIG FEATURES * * OF RADIO * S**»********3 WEDNESDAY’S FIVE BEST RADIO FEATURES j WEAK—Hookup 9:30 pm. — Verdi’s Opera, “Aida."
