The warden said that, in such an event, Justice Scudder would probably postpone the executions a month. — O 1 Berne Artificial Stone Company Sells Property Berne, Jan. 12— (Special)— At a meeting of the directors of the Berne Artificial Stone company, Wednesday., it was voted to sell the real estate of the company to T. A. Gottschalk. Mr. Got'schalk made'his hid on the real estate when it was offered for sale at auction last Saturday. Mr. Gottschalk and a partner, whose name he has not disclosed, purchased the real estate and they plan to encorporate under the firm name of the Gottschalk Supply Co., Inc. Jan. 12—(UP) —Although a life prisoner in the Mi. chigan city state prison. Henry Romine. 811, has been paroled 13 times and jiermitted to leave the state without a guard or ether restraint except Ills promise to return. Homtne. the only Civil War veteran serving a sentence in any penitentiary in the United States, was in Erie. Pa., today on his thirteenth visiting, a daughter who is ill Mrs. I Mary Moore. I Fifteen years ago, Romine was involved in a barroom brawl at Columbus, Ind., in which a Itartender was slain. Three men implicated with him turned state's evidence and gave cireumstantial evidence that convicted Romine. He was sentenced to life. Romine was not permitted out of the prison for eight years. But seven years ago. he was paroled without a guard so he could attend a Grand Army of the Republic convention. This parole has become an annual fixture. Romine has been released every year for the annual G. A. R. reunion. Illness among some of bis nine children also has obtained temporary freedom for him. Once he was paroled for 60 days.
