Appalachian Highway To Pass Through Indiana Rochester, Ind., Jan B—(lNS)—The route of the great Appalachian Way will pass through Rochester, accord-ing-'to an announcement by officials of the Appalachian Way Association. This route when completed will be a direct road between Charleston S. C. and Chicago, 111. and will pass through Marion. Somerset, Peru, Rochester, Argos, North Judson, Crown Point and Gary to Chicago. When completed the route will offer a new improved diagonal highway connecting the Great Lakes region . with the South Eastern States. It is said that traffic in this direction both north and south, has been extremely heavy the past few years. ■— o — To Let Contract Eor New Field House At I. U. Feb. 1 Indianapolis, Ind. Jan. B—(INS8 —(INS) — The contract for Indiana university's 1300,000 field house will be let Eeb. 1, according to an announcement by the board of trustees of the state university. The trustees announced that plans prepared by Robert Frost Daggett. Indianapolis architect, had been accepted. The trustees met last night at the office of Dr. S. E. Smith, provost of the university in Indianapolis. The new field house will be 300 feet long 200 feet wide and 70 feet high and will have a seating capacity of 15,000 persons. It will be erected on the east side of the present men's gymnasium on the Bloomington campus. By means of a novel removable hardwood basketball floor football games may be played within the building. Society To Save Eyesight Growing New York, Jan. 7 —(UP) —For every four blind persons in the United States ■there is now one person identified with the work of averting such human disasters, according to a statement issued today announcing that the National Committee for the Prevention of Blindness will henceforth Ire known 1 as the National Society for the Prevention of Blindness. “The membership of the committee has grown from two men and a woman in 1907 to some 25 000 men, women and children in 1928," said Lewis H. ; Cards managing director of the organization. State of Indiana County of Adams, SS: We, the undersigned each and nil of whom are resident adult free-hold-erg and voters tof French Township, in Adams County, Indiana, respectfully netition your honorable body and ask that you construct and complete a Free Macadamized stone road in said township over and upon highway situated on the following route to-wit; Commencing at the north west corner of section thirteen (13) township twen-ty-six (26) north range thirteen (13) East in Adams County Indiana running thence East on the boundary line of section twelve (12) and thirteen (13) township and range aforesaid, and terminating at the north east corner of said section thirteen (13) township I twenty six (26) north range thirteen (13) East. I Your petitioners aver and say that the improvement prayed for is less I than three miles in length, connects at the commencement thereof with a | free Macadam Road in said township and ends on the boundary line of said French Township, and that a United States Rural Mail Route passes over the highway thus sought to be improved.
