Third Street. The home was prettily decorated for tho occasion, the parlor being in Christmas colors, with a lighted Christmas tree and red ta I pers, while the dining room was in ! New Years streamers and golden bells. Games and contests furnished | elite: tainment, after which a dainty two course luncheon was served at the midnight hour. Just as the bells were announcing the advent of the New Year, a beautiful wedding cake bearing a minature radio set was brought in, and an announcement attacked to the radio set broadcast the message that Mr. Oscar Yost, son of Mrs. Sam Baumgartner of this city, and Miss Flossie Everett, grand-daughter of Mrs. Gabriel Everett, of Pleasant Mills and a teacher in the Pleasant Mills schools, had been married July 2, 1927 at Louisville. The wedding occurred when the couple, together with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Meyers, took a trip to- Mammouth Cave. The announcement came as a complete surprise to everyone, even the immediate families of the couple. Mr. Yost is employed as book-keeper for L. E. Bowman, th-? Crysler distributor in Fort Wayne, and at the close of the school term, the young couple will establish their home in that city. Those attending the party were: Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Lenhart, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fortney of this city; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Meyers of Bluffton; Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Brooks of New Haven; John Aber. Carmody entertained their Bridge,Club and a few outside guests at a New Year's partylast evening, and it was very delightful. Honors were taken by Mr.s. Clayson Carroll, Mrs. J. H. Heller, Mr. ('. A. A delicious luncheon was served The annual installation of officers for the local chapter of the Women's Relief Corps will be held Thursday afternoon, at 1:30 o'clock, at the Yoeman hall in this city. Following the installation, a pot-luck supper will be served. Each member is urged to come and bring something for the supper. PYTHIAN NEEDLE CLUB NEW YEARS DINNER With approximately fifty people present at both the dinner and supper hours, members of the Pythian 'Jeedle Club and their families enjoyed a chicken dinner, Monday, at he K. of P. Representatives of the Indiana F< deration of Labor and the Indiana Farm Bureau Federation today were pledged to work toward influencing Indiana’s senators and congressmen to support the following program during th peresent session of congress : 1. Enactment of legislation restricting the equity court in the issuance of injunctions in industrial disputes. 2. Passage of the McNary-Haugen farm relief measure. 3. Opposition to repeal of federal estates tax. | William H. Settle, president of the farm bureau in Indiana estimated the strength of the farm-labor movement In this state at. about 400,000 votes. o— — Lafayette Woman Wills Land To Purdue University Lafayette Ind., Dec. 3—(INS) When the will of the late Mrs. Laura R. Blackstock, was offered for probate, it was found that she had willed two tracts of land in Tippecanoe County, to Purdue University. The two tracts contain fifty acres each and are bequested to ttte trustees ! of Purdue university for the benefit of the student loan fund. The benefaction is to be known as the Laura R. Blackstock Loan Fund. A sum of SI,OOO was bequeathed to Poor Sisters cf St. Francis the money to be used in furnishing a room Io be known as the Mr. and Mrs. William M. Blackstock Room". Slowly Rising Temperature And Generally Fair Weather Predicted Indianapolis, Jan. 3.—(INS) —Although below zero temperatures again were recorded in Indiana this morning the record breaking Year cold wave is on the verge of breaking up, the government weather man predicted today. Slowly rising temperatures and generally fair weather were forecast. With the let up the intense cold in sight, the state highway commission today turned its full attention toI wards reestablishing highway communications in northern Indiana, which had been paralysed by tho blizzard. Fire Losses Heavy Indianapolis, Jau. 3. —(INS) — Fire losses totaling more than one million dollars were caused in Indiana by the usual epidemic of blazes which accompanied the severe New Year cold wave which is just breaking up. Two lives were lost in the fifbs. Over-heated furnaces and defective flues were the two main causes of fires. ■— o Jail Breaker Changes His Mind And Returns Princeton. Ind.. Jan. 3—(lNS)—Police here found it unnecessary to go out looking for Charles Swab, who had broken the city jail. Swab returned himself. Swab had been arrested for “spiking" his ginger ale in a restaurant. He was charged with liquor law violation and placed in the jail to await tria'. However, he became tired of the confinement and broke his way out through two locks. When he went strolling the streets, however, a friend stopped to talk with him, learned of the “break” and advised a return on the ground that jail breaking is a more serious charge than drinking liquor. Swab saw the logic, cf the argument and took himself back to jail.
