TAYLOR LOSES TO OANZONER! Hoosier Fighter Steps Outside Class And Loses By Small Margin New Yoik, Doc. 31. (UP)—Tony Canzonet I, the nice appearing little I* athei w eigh) from Brooklyn, earned a right to meet Bonny Bass for the featherweight title Bass now holds, I through a victory over Bud Taylor of ! Terre Haute, Ind., last night. It was one of the finest fights the : Garden has soon this season, and ; Canzoneri won only by the margin of J one round. From the first tap of the , gong the Midgets fought and at the j 'ast tap in the tenth they still were lighting. Taylor jarred Canzoneri frequently | with vicious left hooks. He pelted rights and lefts to the body. Canzonerl smiled and came back fighting He jarred Taylor. His right was , working well and he shot it over frequently to make the blonde from Indiana wince. The view of the fight was that Canzoneri won four rounds, Taylor three, and three were draws. Taylor, who is recognized by the national boxing association as the bantamweight champion, fought at 121*4 pounds where Canzoneri weighed 125*4. It was the third meeting between the two. In Chicago Taylor won one decision over Canzoneri and one fight was a draw. They fought then at the bantamweight limit I FIELDGOALS) By MARK M. UPP j ” ======li The St. Joe tea mthat stepped out and handed Central a walloping last night did not'look like the : ante outfit that was drubbed by Central a tew weeks ago. Evidently, Coach Swearingen has been putting in a few hard licks For about five or six minutes in the second half last night, the CentralSt. Joe game was a battle royal like those two teams usually stage, but outside of those few minutes, St. Joe held the upper hand When the two teams meet in the third and deciding • game soon, there should be a big crowd in the bleachers. Anderson Catholic high is coming to the front, as is evidenced by their defeat of the Commodores last night and their victory over Shelbyville Catholic recently. Petie Mylott went big on the twogame road trip of the Commodores. He scored five baskets at Shelbyville and three at Anderson, besides playing a great defensive game. Congrats to the Hartford Gorillas. They tamed the Lancaster Bob Cats last night in great fashion. Incidentally, the Scrogham brothers staged a merry battle all their own. Each scored the first four points for his team. Now for the Commodores’ game with Pittsburgh Tech here tomorrow night. This should be a contest worth seeing. Martinsville. 15; Frankfort, 11 Looks like someone pulled that old stall again. The Muncie Bear Cats continued their victorious march last night by trouncing Bedford, 26-21.
