DENY REVISION OF PRAYER ROOK House Os Commons Rejects Revised Version Os King James Prayer Book By Clifford L. Day U*P Staff Correspondent London. Dec. 16.—(UlH-l’rotestant England went back to ritualistic fundamentalism today. Church 'of England leaders, aston'shed by the house of commons rejection of a revised version of the King James prayer book, visualized aossibility of a split in the church between "low church" and * high chur< h actions. A convocation of bishops will meet Monday to discuss a situation unpre■edented in centuries. Rejection of the new prayer book means simply that the house of commons refused to authorize a modernized and liberalized version of a prayjr book that has been official and untitered in England since 1662. The venerable Archbishop of Canterbury. primate of England, was tunned at the vote. He sat last •light in the peers' gallery of the louse, and listened to impassioned jebate by politicians whose speeches hardly had been matched since the lays of Oliver Cromwell. The motion for approval of the book, already passed by the house of ords, was rejected by a vote which tn official check up today showed to be 238 to 205. Brides Swear Obedience London, Dec. 16.— (UP) —British brides will continue to swear obedisnte to their husbands, and husbands *lll continue to endow their brides with all their worldly goods, in consequence of the rejection of the re•ised version of the Church of Engand prayer book. An alternative church marriage service was provided in the new book — hough the old still would have been permissible for unmodernized brides —by which the word obey was omltt3d. and the bride would have pledged herself merely to love, honor and ■herish her husband. The bridegroom would have promsed ’ with all my worldly goods I hce share," instead of the old-fashion-d "with all my worldly goods I thee sndow.” In the modernized version the bridegroom would have said, "with my body I thee honor” instead of ‘with my body i thee worship.” In the revised version, the minister would have blessed the couple with .he words ‘-‘that living faithfully together they may surely' perform and keep the vow and covenant betwixt them made," whereas the old blessing was "that, as Isaac an<tKebecca ived faithfully together so these pcTtons may surely perform and keep the vow and covenant betwixt them made.” in the old vei’sion the minister’s opening statement said bluntly that matrimony was not to be entered "to satisfy men’s carnal lusts and appetites like brute beasts that have no mderstanding.” The revised version 3initted the words quoted, and other similar statements regarding matrimony.
_O Calvary Evangelical Church Ralph W. Loose, Minister The Sunday school meets at 9:30 Sunday morning. The prayer meeting fellows at 10:30. To thia second service all ai>K urged to remain; it is pleasing to have nearly all in this service. The preaching service is on Thuslay evening of each week at 7:30 (sun time!. These Thursday evening services can Ih> a great blessing to all and the entire community is urged tn attend. The Church needs every member of the Community but it is also true that every member of the community needs the church. “The church of Christ has never failed from neglect of men but many a man has failed from neglect of the church." The church must count especially on every member being a booster by being pre sent at its services regularly and by every kind word. The church would like also to count on every member of the community being its friend and attending the services. If you come with us we will do you good. The Sunday School will have a special Christmas program following the Sunday School session Sunday morning a week from Sunday. I The leader of group six Is Cecil Har-1 vey and of group eight, Dick Shaffer, and they were successful In getting a large representation of their groups present. About fifty members were in attendance, which was tar beyond the expectations of the pastor and leaders. A program of music, and short addresses were given. Miss Niua Deitch favoring with violin numbers and. Rev. Roscoe Wilson, of Columbia City delighted with several vocal numbers A social hour of getting better acquainted proved helpful. The pastor, Rev. Cecil R. Smith, in his remarks told of the plan of the group organization in the local church, and briefly mapped out the plan of work ahead The entire group took it with favor and a splendid spirit prevailed. The Rev. Roscoe Wilson, who is the district leader of the conference, gave a most helpful address and in his remarks. referred to the recent meeting of the conference cabinet and said that they found in looking over the reports from Jhe different charges that Decatur was among the leading churches in the conferences. This good news was accepted with a determination to even do better this coming quarter. Rev. Wilson is always a welcome visitor to Decatur, and the regret is that the entire membership was not present. The-other groups will arrange their meetings at a future date and special programs will be featured. The leaders. Messrs Harvey and Shaffer, are planning some great things in their church that will tend to the upbuilding of the local chtfrch and the kingdom of God.
