After all the gifts were drawn from the well, a special gift was presented to each one present, from a member living in b a distant state. The committee in charge of the affair were Miss Laura , Stanley, Mrs. Della Mosure, Mrs. ~ Jessie Fry, and Dr. Emma Charles. , CELEBRATES 43RD BIRTHDAY On the occassion of his 43rd birthday anniversary, John C. Spahr, 40S j Winchester street, was subjected to a surprise, Wednesday evening, when a number of friends called at his home about seven o'clock with well filled baskets, and enjoyed a pot-luck supper. Mr. Spahr was the recipient of several lovely presents. Following the supper, several games were played and a social hour enjoyed. Those • present: Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Spahr, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ferry and daughters Roberta and Luanne; Mr. Thames • Spahr, Miss Emma Kriesher, of Wren; Mrs. Nellie Shaw and daughter Rethema and son Dode of Ohio , City; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Kiess, Mrs. Anna Gunsett and daughter Ida of Fort Wayne; Mr. and Mrs. Pearl I Riker and daughter Joyce, and Mr. and Mrs. Jbss Leßrun of Decatur. All departed at a late hour wishing Mr. Spahr many happy returns of the day. The C. L. of C. will hold their annual Christmas party and exchange, Tuesday evening, December 20, at the K. of P. hall at 7:30 o’clock. The hostesses for the party will be Mrs. L. C. Perry, Mrs. J. K. Niblick, Mrs. M. J. Mylott, Mrs. Roman Parent, Mrs. Victor Ulman. Miss Kathryn Oinlor and Misses Rose and Anna Nesswald. The PhilathaeClass of the Paptist Sunday school will hold its annual ( Christmas party and gift exchange Friday evening at 7:30 o’clock in the church parlors. Mrs. O. E. Miller will provide the evening's entertainment. All members ate urged to be present. MARRIED IN PASTOR’S STUDY This morning, in the pastor's study of the United Brethren church, occured the marriage of Mrs. Elsie Cook and Raymond Springer, both of Decatur. The ceiemony was performed by the Rev. Cecil R. Smith, pastor of the United Brethren church, in the presence of Mrs. Roy Tuinbieson, Mrs. Ruth Williams and David Springer M'-. and, Mrs. Springer will reside in this citv. PHOEBE BIBLE CLASS CHRISTMAS PARTY Mrs. Fred Ashbaueher, Mrs. Floyd Arnold, and Mrs. John Beineke were hostesses to the member of the Phoebe Bible class of the Zion Reformed church at their annual Christmas party at the home of the former on North Third street, Wednesday evening. A lighted Christmas tree and streamers provided decoration for the home. Thirty-five membeis were in atteniance. Contests were enjoyed and prizes won by Mrs. O. L. Kirsch, and Mrs. Albert Mutschlei. At the close of the social hour. Santa Claus arrived and distributed beautiful presents. Mrs.T. S. Miller of Fort Wayne was an out-of-town guest. At a late hour, the hostesses served delicious refreshment.
The Missionary Circle of the Evangelical c hurch will meet Monday evening for their Christmas party and' election of officers, instead of Tuesday evening as planned. The hour of the meeting will be 7:30 P. M. and the place announced later. ■ i " I e ■> Members of the C. SOCIETY SHAKESPEARE CLUB ENJOY MUSICAL PROGRAM Mrs. James Wcstveld was leader of a very delightful musical program. Wednesday afternoon, which was given before the members of the Shakespeare Club, with Mrs. John Tyndall acting as hostess. The subject of a paper read by Mrs. Westveld was "Patriotic Airs." Folk Music Similarities of National Music" The paper was very fine and was illustrated with choice Victrola records. Mrs. Dan Tyndall sang a group of Nation-I Aires, and Mrs. Tyndall, | together wait Mrs. E. D. Eugeler. sang a group ot three duets of Folk pongs. The two ladies also sang Christmas ear-ds. This will l>c a business meeting. MRS. ED CHRISTEN READS CLUB PAPER Mrs. Martin Jaberg was hostess to' the Historical Club, Wednesday al-, ternoon, at her home on North First | street. Mrs. Ed Christen had the paper for the afternoon and used as her subject "A Study of Great Cathedrals." Mrs. Christen divided her paper Into the Cathedrals of England, , Cathedrals of France, Cathedrals of , Italy, Cathedrals of Mexico and the Cathedrals of the United States. She . gave a description of the different i Cathedrals, told when and why they i were built. Mrs. Christen also spoke i of the different styles of cathedrals I which were built in four epochs. In t the 13th century, were the early i Gothic styles; in the 14th century, i the decorative cathedrals; in the fifi teenth and sixteenth centuries, the t perpendicular style of architecture. She illustrated her paper with pictures and at times during the resiling, her tford portrayals were so clear and complete that one could distinctly visualize the cathedral . mentioned iu their mind's eye. Each member is requested to bring her own table service. » ' COURT HOUSE GIRLS f HOLD CHRISTMAS PARTY The young lady employees at the , Court House, enjoyed a Christmas party and gift exchange, at the noon ’ hour today. The table was arranged I in the office of the County Superintendent. the Misses Rose Nesswald, I Alice Lenhart and Marguerite Striker being the committee in charge of ' the plans. The table was decorated with a Christinas tree in the center, and small Santa Clauses at each place as favors. A pot-luck dinner was served. The exchange of gifts j followed the dinner. Those present were, Marcella Nelson, Anna Nesswald, Margaret Haley, Cecil Moser. Marie Murtaugh, Doiothy Walters. Rose Nesswald, Alice Lenhart, and ' Marguerite Striker. Harness of the Standard Motor Sales, declares it "pays to advertise” In last evening's issue of the Daily Democrat, Mr. Harness inserted a “Lost Ad", for a small brown and white female Boston bull terrier dog, valued at SIOO. At 6:30 o'clock, the dog was delivered to the owner. It had strayed away from home and became lost. The parties who found it read Mr. Harness ad and returned it at once. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Smith, who movejl their house-hold goods to Indianapolis last August, where they established their residence, have returned to Decatur and re-occupied their home at 325 North Third street. While in Indianapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Smith were nicely located on Meridian street,: where Mis. Smith most successfully conducted a Beauty Shoppe. In response to a keen yearning for the “old home town’ on the part of Mr. Smith, however, the couple have returned and expect to remain permanently in this city.
