FLEW NOT HUNTING A JOB —- . Prefers to Remain As ( oach Os Yankees Rather Than Manage Indians —. — j By Foster Eaton Fl’ Staff Correspondent Collinsville, 111.. Dec. 9. (I'P) — P. aspects of again coaching the world hampion *.New York Yankees mean moi? to Art Fletcher than th' presumably more lucrative prospects of managing the Cleveland Indians, he told the United Press today. | “I just don’t want the job,” he said . with evident sincerity. "If the Yank‘ es want me next yeat I want to : be there.” I Fletcher said there was no unfriendliness for the Indians, nor for Billy Evans, their general manager. Why. I like Billy,” he said "We are good friends. It is not that." Thus far, d spite reports that Evans had selected Fletcher for the position, 1 no direct offer has reached the former Phillies manager. Evans was reported ia St Louis yesterday, but did not confer with Fl tcher, the Yankee coach said. Fletcher was a little put out by publication of reports indicating the deal i had been closed, and said:•’Even up to now no member of the C’.eve’and club has approached me on any such offer. Th a way I feel about it. if New York wants my services next year I ceitainly will turn down the Cleveland job if it is made to me.” The New York ccach was asked if he perhaps aspired to the berth now held by Miller Huggins. “Oh. 1 don’t know anything about that," he said. "Put it this way and you will get me straight: there’s a whole lot in lieing satisfied with vonr work, in
liking the personnel of the club you 'serve, in liking the home of your j team.” I 1; tern Ali-S( . Tram Favorite im-* ern I Sail F.HttciHco, Dee. 9 - (I'P) All: all-stat eastern football team today) ruled the favorite over a western eleven In the iiiinn.il east-west bin l fit game to be played here December 2G. I Tackles: Yoder, Olympic club; | Hicks, St. Mary's; and Kuhn, Olympi . I Guards: Diehl, Idaho; B.’ewater. Olympic; and Wright, Washington. I Centers: Corothers. ' o Twin-Team Football Plan i Being Considered By Yale New Haven. Conn.. Dec. 9.— (INS) Michigan's twin-team football innovation. under which one eleven will play at home next fall while the other meets opponents on foreign grid-, irons, is being considered unofficially at Yale. Advocates of the plan point out that a reserve team could play other Connecticut teams and teams in nearby states. The plan also would be in a cord with Yale’s policy of "athletics for all students," it is argued. —o — DePauw Noses Out Win Over Earlham, 20 To 18 — Greencastle, Ind., Dec. 9. — (UP) —i DePauw basketball tiam reversed its form in the second half of a hardfought battle with Ear'ham last night, and nosed out the Quakers, 20 to IS. ■ The Richmond team had held an 8 ‘ to 2 advantage at the end of the first half. Messersmith, DePauw captain, dropped in the winning basket ten > seconds befote the final gun.
fclEI 1) COALg ||| Cy MARK M. UPP I Central Catholic high of Fort Wavne will help Cathedral high cf Indianapolis dedicate the latter’s new gymnasium tonight. Cathedral gym will he the scene of the State Catholic high school tournament next spring. * Yellow Jacket vs. Tiger tonight. ' There’s fight In that combination. The Commodores have scheduled a game with University high of Detroit, to be played in this city Febi nary 25. The Detroit eagers will play C. C. H. S. in Fort Wayne on the preceding night. The northerns have been regular attendants at the national Catholic tourney in Chicago the last few years and have made good showing each I time. Last year, they were eliminated in the same round that the j ' Commodores were defeated. I A story in the Huntington Press yesterday said that Kroning, star forum <1 of the Manchester College team was suffei ing from a broken leg and would net be able to play in the game ■ ainst Huntington College, at North Manchester, last night. The story of the game sent out today says that I Manchester won 64-27 and Krauing led in the scoring with IS points. If we ever have a broken bone, we will s<»nd for Kroning’s physician to reduce the fracture. The football schedules of Fort Wayne Central and North Side high schcls for next fall were announced today and the Yellow Jackets do not appear on either card. How kum, we wonder. Central has 12 games scheduled and the Red skins have nine. DePauw scored only two points in | the first half of the game with Earlham last night, while the Quakers were scoring eight. The Tigers got going in the second half, however and nosed out a twn-polnt win, 20-18. Charlie Andrews and Louis Behr, ! forwards on the University of Wisconsin basketball team, are playing togei ther for the eighth consecutive season. 1 They played together on the Rockford,
111., high school team for four years and this Is their fourth year nt Wls-| ccnsln. Behr is captain of the Badge-s. I The Peru Tigers step out Into fast company this week-end. The.' Play the Huntington Vikings at Huntington tonight and return home to battle the Franklin high school quintet Saturday night, after these two games, Peru will know whether or not the Tigers are as strong as they are rated in their home town. Fort Wayne South Side plays the Connersville Spartans, at Ccnnersvllle tonight. It looks like a cold hard night for the Kelly Klads. With South Side at Connersville, (’Mittal at Decatur, North Side play, ing South Bend at home and Central Catholic at Cathedral of Indian :;' :” . it looks like, it would be just too bad tor the F. it Wayne high school teams tonight. — o ,— Two Fort Wayne Schools Announce Grid Schedules Fort Wayne, Ind., Dee. 9, —The football schedules of Central and North Side high schools for the season of 192 S were announced today as fol-
