Drop a dime or a quater or a dol-1 lar of five or more into one of the Good Fellow boxes at the Old Adams County bank, the Eats restaurant or at this, office, remembering that its your donation that every poor boy and girl may continue to believe in a Santa Claus. J— X— . _ When a motorist drives his car upon a railway track he does so at his own risk, according to the supreme court which has recently so ruled. Probably a good law but it is also just as important that the crossings be so marked that even the stranger knows when he approaches a railway. Ed Jackson will go on trial on charges of bribery February (Qi and in the meantime Indiana will be governed by a man under indictment and under suspicion. No wonder that the| citizens of other states are wondering what kind of people we Hoosiers are who continue to stand for such records. Evi rybody in Adams county should j consider themselves a member of the. Old Home Week committee. Cooperation and a little effort will make a] great success that people will talk, about for years to come. Gee what a line time we will all have that week. Its something ieally to look forward to. ten’t It? All the folks will be back and there will be something to 1 interest everyone. Il doesn't look rosy for Vare and Smith who are in Washington to take seats in the senate, but were blocked at the door by objections from those who are convinced that their elections were influen ed by ways and means not permitted by law. Dy a vote of nearly two to one is predicted by those taking a poll yesterday and thats the way it should be. It is high time that we get back to an oldfashioned belief in honesty and that we prove to the world that our laws mean something. D. C. Stephenson says if he can get protection so that he won't be phys- • ically punished he will “drive from political power a group of the most sinister political mountebanks ever elected through the expose of a most gruesome set of facts," which is to , say that the present state administration is just what we have claimed for it for several years. The thing for the people of Indiana to do is to drive from power aii of these Stephensonmade off! dais and if you don't do it next year you will probably lose your opportunity. We do not believe for a moment that with that as an issue the voters of Indiana will do else. Colonel Gallagher, speaker at the monthly meeting of the Decatur Industrial Association could not have chosen a better subject than “Cooperation." It is our hobby as well as his for we believe that it is the one
I and only rule for success iu business, ’ church, lodge, community, politics or ' any worth while effort. Our business I men were glad to hear this successful ' leader and to learn his views and Ills • attitude towards this city and comtj muuity and the promises made him to aid him in every way possible were '{sincere and unanimous. The sugar plant is a splendid institution, has , meant much for Decatur and Adams I county and will we believe mean even 1 more as the years roll by. ; i { Frank M. Schirmeyer, one of the j pioneers of Decatur and who served las president of the board of goverI nors who had charge of the famous I Old Home Week of 1912 has again been named for that responsible and important position for 1928. He will ' do his part well and we are sure that with the enthusiasm already manifested for the event he will have the heartiest support of every member of every committee and all citizens. Old I Home Week properly put on is a i great event. it means the coming I home of old friends, of relatives, of thousands of people, it means a happy occasion but it takes much earnest work and a large supply of Colonel | Gallagher's hobby, “cooperation." We are sure it will all be cheerfully given. We agree with President Coolidge ion his opening statement that it is gratifying to have peace, we hope he is right about his prediction of pros--1 perity. but doubt his information that everybody in the land is groaning with all the things that wealth provides at this time. His suggestions for a revolving federal farm board to loan money sounds good but so far we lack the details necessary to express an opinion. We do not doubt that the president means well in his message but it will take some high powered engineering to put it through congress. Already the farm bloc has declared objections to the proposed farm relief measure and unless it is such a proposition as will sell itself to the people it will have small chance. Congress is in session and the fate of nation hangs upon its actions. We can only wait for results. o A GOOD THING—DON’T MISS fT Send this at! and ten cents to Foley and Co.. L And Bye and Bye You Can Buy A Pony And - And-| YOUNGSTERS, untaught in the value of Savings, are prone to make the nearest candy store their “savings bank.” That’s only natural. But through kindness and appeal to their youthful imaginations in the “vast sums” they can Save, can they be persuaded to hold on to i money.
