Thanks for another Thanksgiving and all its joys. Christmas n> xt and just a month from today. Do your shopping early and watch the Daily Democrat for announcements of advantage to you.. We sincerely hope you were not only thankful but careful and that you are as comfortable today as you were just before dinner yesterday. William J. Burns might retaliate by employing Nick Carter to do a little sleuthing for him. Perhaps they could catch the judges with something on their hips. Wednesday was the warmest November day in New York since the' weather bureau was opened there. Tire thermometers registered seventy, in the shade. Tlie difference between a "companiate marriage" and a lot of others is that the former gets more publicity and puts silly thoughts in the minds of school children. Put your name on the Red Cross Roll and help increase the Adams county membership to one thousand. At present there are but about, half that number in a county of five thousand families. Muncie is evidently trying to transfer interest from Indianapolis to Delaware county. According to reports there are so many guilty of graft of various color and size, that its another case of the "pot calling the kettle black." Caught beneath a pile of straw a two hundred pound Kansas porker burrowed its way out weighing but sixty pounds, just a "shadder" of its former self but we are not suggesting that witli tlie thought that it should become a popular means of reducing. Buy an Adams county farm while you can get one at a bargain. Buying a farm in this garden spot of the country when you can get it for less than the improvements is the safest way in the world to spend a little money. It will come back double within two or three years and with a little watching will more than pay its way in the meantime. The Herne election is being investigated by the grand jury and if the law was violated indictments will be returned. We have no inside information to this but we have confidence in tire men in charge. Whether this ■ happens or not it was cheap election ' tri k and one which may have a roarback. We don't believe the people, regardless of politics desire to encourage such methods by applause. Ruth Snyder and Henry Judd Gray who murdered Ruth's husband in cold blood and who evidently thought they could get away with it will be executed January 12th unless something entirely unexpected occurs. They' are badly frightened and couldn't enjoy Thanksgiving dinner which won't cause a waste of much sympathy. Murderers ought to be frightened and it is to be hoped this example- will bring fear to others who contemplate any happiness or comfort from a career of crime. State road No. 27 between Monroe
] and Berne Is being prepared for hard surfacing next year ft is expected that the work will be completed entirely through thia county within a year and it is also reported that the road from the Adams Allen county line to Fort Wayne is to be concreted next year. This will make the road between Richmond and Fort Wayne I a dustless, hard highway and will of course increase the traffic through j this city. If the state commission would show as much pep on the cast and west road we would he happy We believe the year 1927 will close with a round of good business and that next year will he a record breaker. Everything aewms to indicate that. We can double tbe income of every citizen ill this community by the proper activities. We have a program and carry it out. Lets land a couple of industries, lets have 1 an Old Howe Week celebration, lets invite tho people to trade in Decatur and Adams county, lets help the farmer and everybody will be happy, contented and prosperous. We suspicion the efforts which come from outside the county to have an, indictment returned here against At- ( torney General Gilliom for of the liquor laws, for the sources, seem to indicate that Mr. Gilliom and, his friends would welcome such an opportunity to discuss the proposition. We have no objections to them doing so to their hearts content if they stick to the text, omit polities and do not try to make Adams county the "goat” for a "grandstand" play. Th a Marion county grand jury which is in session three hundred days a year could easily test mit the medicinal question if its so important. o—- ♦ ¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥♦ * BIG FEATURES * * OF RADIO * If ¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥ if Friday’s Five Best Radio Features Copyright 1927 by United I’ress WEAF, hookup. 7:09 p. m. —Cities Service Hour. TELEGRAPHY IS I BEING SIMPLIFIED Simplex Printer Telegraph Instruments Being Install- • ed By Western Union I ' Simplex printer telegraph instru ments are being Installed in the offices of the Western Union Telegraph company, marking a big advancement in telegraphy. Although one of the new instruments haa not been Installed In the Decatur office so far. Joe lUrshiuger local manager, stated today that one probably would be placed in use here within Uve next several months. This long distance typewriting method replaces the old-time Morse system which required months of training in the mysteries of the dick Ung sounder, and substitutes both for (sending and receiving a typewriterlike apparatus easily operated by anyone familiar with ordinary typing. The Simplex Printer conduces greatly to speed and accuracy as well as to ease of operation. It has been adopted for general use by the Western Union for all circuits of certain specified classes and machines are being installed as rapidly as they can be manufactured. The apparatus is but little larger than a typewriter and weighs complete about 7b pounds. 1 The Simplex operator, usually a young woman, sits before the supertypewriter and taps out a word on the keys. letter by letter the electric impulses in another super-typewriter at that end in such a manner that the corresponding typehars are pulled' down and the message is registered SUGAR DIABETES Only Lasts a Few Merks By the I'sc of San Yak Pill*. The girl transmitting the message may be sending over a distance of several hundred miles, it Is as if the keys she depresses were attached to typebars several hundred miles long, each typebar reglsttsrfhg on the distant tape practically instantaneously despite the distance. As she types, tlie message recorded by the distant machine, is likewise printed on a paper tape emerging from her own machine. so that the sending office has a perfect record of what lias been transmitted. When the distant office wishes to send, the home operator stops type writing and the process is reversed. In the Simplex Printer system no perforated tape is required for send Ing as in the case of the Multiplex, the older and more complicated automatic telegraph used on heavy trunk lines between tlie larger centers.
