A FINE RECORD: — Thirty years ago today Martin J. Mylott became city electrician of De-! catur and he is receiving the congratulations of his hiMidreds of friends for nearly a third of a century of. faithful and efficient services. He is now and has been for somej years superintendent of the Decatur Power and Light plant and it is some plant, recognized as one of the best i in the state, well equipped and well manager. ’'Marty” has watched and helped and guided its growth from 75 kilowat hours to a 4,500 k. w. power plant of unexcelled efficiency, has catered to a list of customers which began with one and now in-| eludes more than 1,800 power and light users in this city and four hun-| dred on the rural lines. He has literally "sat up at nights” nursing his, lines and his boilers and his dynamos and there are few people in this community he has not accomodated. Never a night too dark or stormy for him to enter forth, never a task too ardous for him to tackle if by so doing he could prevent a factory from, being closed for lack of power, if he. could aid us in getting out our daily j issue, if he could keep the lights "trimmed and burning” for the convenience of the public. Thirty years on one job is a long stretch of time and Martin Mylott deserves every congratulation he received today and more. His salary has been small and his tasks many, important and oft times dangerous. He has devoted the best years of his life to a service for the community and he has the satisfaction of having MADE GOOD in capitol letters. Scores of times when in trouble we have called for "Marty” and his broad smile and his cherry "We'll have you going in a short time” has driven away the blues of discouragement. He's a regular fellow, a good citizen, perhaps not the richest in dollars but one of those blessed with many well earned friends. Hats off to “Marty” on his 30th anniversary as the boss of Decatur's light and power plant. The Fort Wayne News is evidently trying to saturate the minds of the people who read it with the idea that Albert Stump was a klu klux klan. They know he wasn’t but that doesn’t make any difference to them. Anxious to clear their own party of Jacksonism and Stephensonism and Walbism they are trying to carom off the bad odor. Senator Watson got enough of their votes to elect him for at the very time of the' last election it was heralded that he had a life membership card. The republicans having used the klan to win two elections now wish to unload them on the democrats. Playing the game crooked seems to be their only tactics. They ought to run in a forward pass or two or something new. Now it transpires that the evidence from the “little black boxes” of the once powerful Stephenson cannot be used because the two year statute of limitations has run. Thats too bad for the public has a right to know the details which would Have been provided by such an exhibit and it is hoped that as Thomas Adams suggests, some plan will be originated which will permit the bringing to light of all the truth. Home owners in Pittsburgh must stand their own loss as a result of the
' gas tank explosion. Insurance pod1 des do not protect against concussion) It is claimed by experts and the loss it is estimated will total millions. Thirty large manufacturing plants and three hundred houses were wrecked : or badly damaged and thousands o( residences were damaged to some extent. More than seventy men, still missing, are supposed to be hurried I beneath the wreckage and twentyI two bodies have already been recovered. II — — 1 The headliner at the banquet of the J American Dental Association convention the other day declared that in twenty years from now a toothache will be a disgrace. Gosh we have heard them called worse things than that for years. Why put it off that long? Go ahead right now and call it any thing your vocabulary will include. There are thieves and bandits these davs of about every description but i the most corteous and obliging one 1 to' come to our notice was the one 1 who stole- Ed Ahr's coupe the other (evening, drove to Toledo and then wrote Chief Melchi a postal descibing exactly where it could be found. I And it was. At that it won't be necessary for Ed to write him a letter of appreciation. Eighteen hundred stockholders of the Lincoln Motor Car company have sued Henry and Edsel Ford, demand--1 ing $1,800,000. Thats the way it goes. 1 They couldn't put it over or didn't and now they want those who did to come < across with some soft money. There ( must be other "games of wit” than ' town politics in Berne. Ralph Updike, congressman from the | Indianapolis district entered into an i agreement with D. C. Stephenson that ’ I the latter could distribute the patron- ■ age but he couldn't be prosecuted beI cause the contract was made in 1924 ' ' and is now outlawed. Updike is a re- 1 I I publican, was reelected last year and ' will probably ea candidate again next year. I — Stop signals at the street intersections mean that your car is supposed to stop there and if there is any traf- , I sic coming on the through street that you shall wait until it is clear. You are earnestly requested to assist the police in enforcing this ordinance. If you know of violations report them. There are indications now that the Graystone hotel fire at Indianapolis Sunday when eight persons burned to death, was the work of a firebug. If they catch this one he should be sent where he will burn throughout eternity and we can't imagine any less punishment for such a fiend. George Remus, "King of bootleggers” who recently shot and killed his wife and is now on trial is defending himself and according to reports very ably. If he gets himself out of this mess he won't need to bootleg, he can open up a shop and defend murderers. o *¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥* * BIG FEATURES * * OF RADIO * K¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥K WEDNESDAY'S FIVE BEST RADIO FEATURES WEAF— Hookup 9:30 pm.
