I FREDERICK VOGLEWEDE I CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY Federick Voglewede, son of Mr. and I Mis Charles Voglewede, West Monroe I street, entertained a number of his I school friends at a party, Thursday I afternoon, after school, the occasion I being his eighth birthday anniversary. I Contests and games were indulged in I during the afternoon. In two different I contests. Junior Holthouse and Rose I Mary Fullenkamp, and Loretta Lose I and Richard Reed were awarded the I prizes. At the supper hour, the youngI sters were invited to the dining room I where a well appointed table in HalI leween festivity awaited them. A birthI day cake containing eight candles was I burning on the table. The centerpiece I was a witch stiring a huge iron pot. ■ I Strings led from the pot to each plate. ■ ■ The■‘vnungsters were <»id to pult on I the strings, and, when they did so, large fancy suckers emerged from the witch's pot. A black cat held a well ; filled nut basket for each guest. The lunch was served by Misses Naomi Holthouse, Mary Margaret and Helen Voglewede. She will continue her teaching for the remainder of the present school year and will then join her , husband in Auburn. CONVENTION The fiftieth annual convention of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society of the M. E. Churches of the Fort Wayne District, will be held in Garrett Monday and Tuesday, October 17 and IS. The convention will open at onethiity o’clock. Monday afternoon. Mrs. M. E. Mrs. W. F. Beery, Mrs. Ben Devor' Mrs. Ross Stoakes, and Mis. Delton Passwaters, will form a delegation in attendance from this city. The Pythian Needle Club will hold an annual masquerade party, Monday evening, at seven-thirty o'clock, at the Pythian Homo. The hostess will be Mis. Grant Frye, Mrs. Cash Lutz, Mrs. Allen Miller, and Mrs. M. F. Worthman. Almost Wiped Out In Accident Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 15. —(INS) — The crack drill team of Sahara Grotto was practically wiped out in the crossing accident last night. Established in 1921, the Sahara Grotto soon attracted national attention because of the prowress of its "Blue Devils" team, which took first place in drill competition at the last three national convenions held in Atlantic City, St. Louis and Cleveland. o Tries Suicide Third Time Vincennes, Ind., Oct. 15 —(IN'S) — Little hope was held out today for the recovery of Henry Conklin, 47, who attempted suicide late yesterday by drinking poison. He refused to tell why he drank the poison, it was his third suicide attempt. o Miss Margaret Z'wfck and Robert Filebe motored to Fort Wayne last evening and attended a show at the Majestic.

SUNDAYSCHOOLS I TO MEET HERE: Annual County Sunday School Convention To Be Held Next Week Every Sunday school in Adams county is expected to have a large delegatlon in attendance at the Adams Coun|ty Sunday school convention, which • J will be held at the Zion Reformed 1 ehurch of this city next Tuesday and Wednesday. A good program has been arranged for every session, and all ' I Sunday school pupils and instructors ' | are urged to attend. The public, also, is invited to attend I the lectures, which will bear on vital ' i questions of the day. The speakers arc all experienced in the work of Sunday schools and every minute of both days will be taken up with great subjects. Wednesday night, at 6 o’clock, a ban- ’ quet will be held at the Methodist - church for all attending the convention. Mrs. C. E. Hocker, of this city ’ will preside as toastmistress. Mrs. Jessie Deam has returned home from Bluffton, where she visited for ' the past few days with Mrs. Jessie 1 Studebaker. ’ Mr. and Mis. J. E. Elberson are expected home, Sunday, following a I week's tour of southern Indiana. They were accompanied on the trip by Mr. Elberson's parents, of Portland. The party stopped at the Slifty Inn, at Madison, Indiana, and made trips out from there into the surrounding country. Mi - , and Mrs. Charles Dugan and Mrs. John Tyndall will leave tomorrow for Indianapolis, where the former will visit over Sunday with their daughter, Mrs. Pierre Goodrich and family. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Miller, of Royal i Oak Michigan, will spend the”weekend with Mrs. 11. Winnes and Mr. and Mrs. H. Lammlman. Mr. and vtrs. Ira Fuhrman and Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Butler will motor to Indianapolis, Sunday, for a day's visit with friends, and to attend a show. An old bill advertising a baseball game played here about thirty years ago between the fats and the leans was brought to this office by Dr. Roy Archbold. Not a member of the fats team is now living and but two or three of the leans. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Whitright and daughter Gladys have returned home from a motor trip hrough the east. They, left, Decatur last Sunday and reached Niagara Falls on Monday af- ' ternoon. They remained there until Thursday and started on their return J trip, crossing into Canada and back to Detroit on the Canadian side. Wertzbeiger, South Third street, who has been suffering intense pain for the past several weeks because of an infection of the face, continues about the same, but is exceedingly weak. Zion Reformed Church Corner Third and Jackson Streets A. R. Fledderjohann, Pastor Sunday School begins at 8 o'clock Tomorrow Morning The school will be dismissed by about 9 o'clock so that all the men and boys can leave immediately for Bluffton to attend the Men's Congress. We want a good delegation to go. Cars will be provided. A first Mass program for the morning and afternoon. There will be no evening session. Everyone that goes should be sure to register. The meetings will be held in the new Community Building. The Congress opens at 10 o'clock when Prof. L. C. Hessert, former pastor of this church will give the Congress sermon. He will be glad to see familiar faces and a large delegation from Decatur. Let it be understood that there will be no services at this ehurch to morrow. An unusual thing happened last Sunday in the Sunday School, there was a larger attendance than xm rally day, and it should be so. We hope the good work will continue we have reached the full quota of attendance for the school. The school meets promptly at 9:30. Morning worship at 10:30. The ideal coming to the front today is, if a child or adult cannot be in both the school and worship service, then comh for the worship hour instead of the school. Subject for the morning message, “The King tempted and Tried." B. Y. P. U. at six o’clock, leader, Walter Bodie. Evening hour of worship a< seven. Subject of message, “Can Christ be Handicapped?” A fine spirit and interest prevails in the evening hour. o Methodist Church The Methodist church of Decatur effects an entire change in time for services. While the morning service and*Sunday School hour will remain the same, the evening services are all moved up one half hour. The Sunday School which meets at 9:30 will try to hiaintain the rally day standard of last Sunday. Nearly four hundred were in the school on last Sunday and many of the classes were one hundred per cent, classes. The morning hour of worship at 10:45 has been marked with increased attendance. The service this Sunday wilt be conducted by the pastor, t assisted by the choir. The Junior Church and Junior lea- ■ gue will meet at the same time as . the morning hour of worship.
