Working class mothers of two or more children, in general, cut their consump ion of food and clothing far below that of their husbands and their] emploved children ami have few of the diversions which they enjoy. Tire protection of these almost forgotten] women is one of the most pressing problems of social reform.” Speaking on "The Changing Basis' of Family Support and Expenditures,” ( Proffessor Douglas said: "Industrial ism has increased the age of marriage; it has also increased divorce. The range of employments open to women makes it possible for wives to leave their husbands and to dissolve relationships which have become irk some. It is primarily for this reason that there is so much more divorce in the cities than in the rural districts.
