Mrs. Herbert Sprunger of Hartford township, is reported seriously ill. Dennis Moser, who teaches at the Lancaster township school, was in Herne Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Tilman Flueckiger and little son, Roger Lee, moved their household goods into the Mrs. Pauline Hanis residence on North Harrison street Friday, from the Etnil Flueckiger farm northeast of town. The farm has been rented by Hen Flueckiger. Miss i'aipiie Schindler was met at Decatur Friday neon by her father. Jacob Schindler. Miss Schindler is hack home for a year after a three years’ absence as a missionary in Africa. Rev. P. E. Penner left Thursday for Elkhart, to visit at the Rev. George Oambert home before returning eventually to Salem, Texas, where one of the Lamberts’ daughters, Rose who used to he a missionary in Armenia, now resides. Mrs. V. A. Eichenberger, instructor of the teachers’ training class of the Reformed Sunday school, was honored with a delightful surprise party by the members of her class on Tuesday evening. The event was held at her home. Those present were M.-. and Mrs. Chris Lehman and children; the Misses Mynne Ehrsam, Agnes Mettler, Sylvia Schwartz, Charlotte Stengel, Esther Stahly, Ruth Speicher, Paul Stably, John Schug, Harold Eichenberger, Marcus Stahly, Robert Gerber and Herman Atz. Mr. and Mrs. Abe A. Habbegger and Miss Nelle Luginbill motored to Bloom ington, Saturday, to visit their son and nephi v, Myron Habegger, who is attending Indiana University. Linn, of Decatur, was a business caller in Berne Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bevington, of Shipshewana, called at the Amos Burkhalter home Thursday afternoon. Mr. and Mrsk Bevington are very good friends of Miss Edna Burkhalter, who is teaching at Shipshewana High School. Otto Rinaker was brought from the Adams County Memorial hospital to the Ryf home, north of town, last Monday. He is getting along fine after his operation. Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Mettler mere business callers at Fort Wayne. Friday Mr. and Mrs. John Kundrat, Mr. and Mis. Oswin Hilty and Mrs. Rosa Balsiger of Fort Wayne were Sunday guests at the Mrs. Maria Balsiger and Rufus Soldner homes. Mr. and Mrs. David Sommer and daughters Edith and Marcella, son Walter and Miss Clara Baumgartner, cf Fort Wayne, spent Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Judith Lehman, here. Mr. and Mrs. A. Murphy and family of Van Wert, Ohio were visitors at the Rev. Stedcke home at Linn Grove and also stopped off at Berne to see friends. Mr. Kenneth Hartman, of Bluffton, spent Saturday with his brother Cleo Hartman here, and also visited at the John Rich home. ' Harry Schlatter, of Grabili, was a visitor at the Edison Sprunger and Henry Amstutz homes, Saturday. 0 _ Byrd Writes Prophecy On Future Os Aviation New York.— (UP) —Mail planes traveling 500 miles an hour 35,000 feet above the earth and huge air liners carrying scores of passengers are developments in flying foreseen by Commander Richard E. Byrd. NewYork to France flyer, in a prophetic article appearing in the World’s Work published today. After declaring that aviation is “fortunately entering the most controversial s’age of its brief life” he says that the great boon for the future of aviation is public sympathy. "I do not believe that government subsidies will help much,” he says.

NEWS FROM GENEVA —byMiss Catherine Anderson The Wabash township Sunday school convention was held Sunday. The afternoon session was held at Seylon and the evening at the U. B. church at Geneva. Mrs. Sibbutts, a National W. C. T. U. worker, gave the address at both sessions. Mrs. Pauline Teeple and daughter, Elaine, and Mrs. Lucile Campbe'l, all of Fort Wayne, spent Sunday with the C. F. Greene family. Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Odle spent a few hours In Portland, Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Pence, of Los Angeles, who has spent the summer with her daughter, Mrs. .W. D. Cross, Jr., returned Saturday to her home. She was accompanied home by Mrs. Cross, who will spend about three months there. Mr. Morris Wells gave a delightful dinner party at the home on Hale street, Friday evening. The guests were "the birthday club members and a few guests. After dinner, Bunco was played and Mrs. Riecheldeffer received first p’ize for high score and Mrs. Kramer the consolation prize. Mrs. James Briggs was awarded the first guest prize and Mrs. Brown the consolation. A very nice time was had. Mr. and Mrs. James Tully spent Sunday in Fort Wayne, visiting Mr. and Mrs. Charles Thornhill. Mr. and Mrs. O. D. Arnold spent Friday in Decatur. Helen Deitsch and Versal Watson, who are attending business college in Fort Wayne, spent the week-end with their parents. Joseph Anderson and Margaret Houghton were at Bluffton Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Arnold and son Paul, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bauer spent Sunday afternoon in Portland. o Husband And Wife Are Killed In Auto Accident Indianapolis, Oct. 4 — (UF) —Only a few blocks from a home to which they had been invited for a birthday party, a husband and wife were fatally injured in an automobile accident Sunday. The victims were Mrs. Martha Manthey, 49, of Brownsburg, who was killed instantly, and H. F. Manthey, 55, who died a few hours later. Their automobile collided with another driven by Herman Gauss, 29, injuring Gauss and his brother, George Gauss.

I -(INS)—The average American is nine times richer than the average German, according to figures Just published by the Federal Statistical Bureau here which reckon the per capita wealth in Germany at 1273 murks. This sum equalling about $310.00, compares with $2,918 which the U. S. Census Bureau gives as the average wealth per capita of Americans. Wiesbaden, most fashionable of Germany’s health resorts, proves to be also the wealthiest city in the country. The Statistical Bureau calculates that the per capita wealth in Wiesbaden is 3,768 marks whereas Berlin, a poor second, shows but 1,581 marks per head of population.
