RETURN FROM EASTERN TRIP Misses Rosie Confer and Bertha Vog'elwede have returned from a two weeks trip through the Eastern States. Tluiir itinery included stops at Washington, I). C., Philadelphia, New York City and many other points of interest. Having been favoied with letters of Introduction furnished by Senator Watson, they were priveleged visiting many points of interest, which otherwise have been closed to the travelling public. In Washington, they I visited the White House aud had the ■ distinct honor of shaking hands with President Coolidge. A personal visit and Inspection of the President's private yacht "The Mayflower", also proved most Interesting. GUEST FROM VANCOUVER ISLAND Henry Hurst, of Victoria, Van Conver. Island, is visiting Lis brother. James Hurst at the corner of Thirteenth and Monroe streets. This is Mr. Hurst’s first visit to Decatur in twenty-five years. After spending a week or two here, together with Janies Hurst, he will leave for Ontario, where they will visit their for mer home and spend some time with relatives. Henry Hurst figured in an accident, recently, which impaired his health to such an extent that bis physician has ordered him to take a year’s BANNS ARE PUBLISHED The banns of matrimony between Miss Cecil Miller and Mr. Richard C. Mrs. Martin Kiefer, residing three miles north of Preble, underwent an abdominal operation this morning at 1 the Adams County Memorial Hospital. Petty, 47, fatally hurt in fall from coal car. __—: o_x 0 _ x Convicted Murderer Breaks Jail At Vincennes Vincennes, Ind., Oct. 3.—(UP) — Belief that Dreyfhl Rhoades, convicted slayer of a policeman, eluded posses and escaped beyond the Juris diction of Indiana into Illinois was expressed by authorities today as they continued search for the dangerous murderer who broke out of the Knox county jail early yesterday. Two boys whose discovery of various keys for the jail enabled Rhoades to break out, and who escaped with him, were captured across the state line, in Lawrenceville, 111. o—, Sheriff Hollingsworth made a trip to Richmond, today, where he accompanied Edwin Mosier, of Berne, who has been admitted to the State Hospital.
