I HEDBA HOYT TELLS ' ....about.. ■ FASHIONS for WOMEN I i 1 By HEDDA HOYT (United Press Fashion Editor) Xew York. Sept. I—(United Press) It isn't what clothes cost you. It isn’t that they fit. You'll never crash the gates, dear. If you haven't got some "it!” Clothes that have ‘it’ require wearers that have an equal amount of ‘it’! A gown may reek with smartness. It may be thumb-printed by the best Parisian eourturier but if you yourself haven't sufficient personality to carry it, leave it alone. Unusual and distinctive gowns : should only be attempted by women who have an over-dose of individual- j ity. Drab women actuary seem to ( I look their best in gowns which are turned out by the carloads. Their personalities are dwarfed by exotic slhouettes and colorings. Every woman can develop a. certain amount of “it” if she cares to. Most people have to work hard to put | over the fact that they have personality. It's a job without a vacation. The less personality one has to begin with, the harder one has to work. Clothes do much towards developing personality but there's a lot of homework to be done with the old torso before it can be bedecked with gowns express ng something besides cloth. Lots of women try to gain personality by being “good listeners.” Good listeners seldom make howling successes as they are too busy' providing applause for the other fellow. . It's a case of “put up or shnt up” in most instances. Y’ou've got to put up a front if you expect other people to notice you. The person with personali,y is always noticed. A woman tnay be chuck full of personality but if she doesn't continually impress ttheis with the faet, they are prone believe that she is as drab as a doormat. arn to sit, stand and walk cor•'l.'.
