A few minutes after these pictures were taken at the Stillman-Wilson wedding al Grand Anse, Quebec, the photographer who took them was being showered with crockery by Mrs. Jamis A. Stillman, mother of the bridegroom. She became incensed at the picture-makers when they got 100 close to the ceremony. New York, Aug. 1 — (UP) —The importance of sportswear for women is demonstrated at all smart resorts season. Frivolous: frocks have no prestige whatever at the beaches or country resorts and it is quite usual to find the well-dressed woman dressed in a siTnple sweater and skirt during afternoon as well as morning hours. Sweaters are the outstanding style notes of the Summer season. While many women feel that the sweater is both unbecoming and uncomfortable, the light-weight models and loose-fit-ting lines of this year’s models makes them adaptable for any figure. Lightweight eashmer, zephyr, silk, w;ool mixtures or soft knitted string are used instead of heavier yarns. Many models have open-work designs in them to permit the air to penetrate to

i the body. While many horizontally stripped sweaters are shown this year, the woman of importance prefers models of beige, white or plain pastel tones. Beige is of extreme importance in sports wear at present and this shade is often combined with white. For instance, the pelated skirt, shoes and long flannel coat may be white while the sweater, hat and hosiery are isl beige tones. Very pale pink is also favored for sweaters. Occasionally pink is embellished with metallic touches although metallic threads are inclined to tarnish at ocean resorts due to the dampness. Skirts of sweater ensembles are usually pleated and silk, flannel or lightweight woilen material may be utilized through the popular preference appears to be for the silk, skirt. Next in importance to sweaters and pleated skirts for sportswear are sleeveless flannel dresses in such shades as powder blue, yellow, beig-i,

VACATIONS ARE NECESSARY TO v GOOD HEALTH Noted Physician Says There Is More Need Than Ever For Vacations J3y Orville Harry Brown. M.D. Phoenix. Arizona Member Gorgas Memorial Institute. (Written for United Press) Why shotl’d we take vacations'.X The old adage, "All work olid no' ,'>lny makes Jack a dull boy’ is suf- 1 ficient answer, though by no means the only one. Modern American business life is rail’d and strenuous. Most of us work ■ at a tension through the greater part of the year. Our hearts, blood vessels. brairts, etc., get very little rest. Or it may be that it is the muscfcs, which are kept constantly busy. Hence the vacation should afford relaxation from the accustomed type of activity. This does not mean that one should go to extremes. The man With the white collar job does relatively little muscular work. He should spend his vacation with comp'ete freedom from the strains and stresses of his routine job. but he may occupy the recreation period in an- activity, largely physical, provided it is not extended much beond the usual amount, j Many persons make the mistake of spending most of their time in a sedentary occupation and overdoing in vacation periods. One of the I greatest surgeons of all time made I this serious mistake. The reference j is to Dr. Nicholas Senn, who died in .1905, after a vacation in South AmerI ica climbing mounta-ins. He was
brought back to Chicago on u stretch- i er, with an acutely dilated heart, and i never recovered. His heart was un- i trained to the nevere strain which') he put upon it in what he planned i to boa rest period. ' A vacation should boa recreation. ' This word comes from the latln word moan tig to create anew or again, i Our vacations' should ctcate new' vigor and improved health. The great c,p< n spaces in th> west, among others, afford ideal vacation spots, and many will soon bo going to| the hack-to-imttirb p’aces. A word of waning needs be sounded regarding sanita, tion anil the results of iniI proper sanitation. Protect yourself and those who Iconic after you by d gg.ng holes and Icarefully covering all excretions and I debris. This should be done immed.lately. Dysentery nnd typhoid are two

serious which are directly due to Improper sanitation. Typhoid may be a waterborne disease; this occurs if sewage waste from a typhoid patient or a typhoid carrier contam nates the water supply*. A" Hi's may occur where sanitary disposal of sewage is absent, the back country Is where typhoid may be lurking. Typhoid vaccination is safesimple and efficient. Go to your physician and ask him to give you the protective treatment. A vacation Is a splendid opportunity U> do a lot of reading for which time seems lacking in the regular rouiine of a busy Vfe. So read and iest. Everything should” be sacrificed for rest, relaxation, and sleep during vacation times. — Miss Eva Slples, of Fort Wayne, spent Sunday here visiting with relatives and friends.
