Michigan motored to Preble Wednesday, to spend a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Foley. Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Bresick and daughter Susan Ellen, enjoyed a fishing outing Thursday evening. The King's Heralds of Beulah Chapel met at the home of Miss Fay Shimp Thursday afternoon. During the business session. Robert Kolter joined as a member of the King s Heralds. After the business session, games were played and refreshments served. Those present were: Bereneta and Leo Hoffman. Robert Kolter, Elizabeth Fuhrman. Viona Kirchner. Ethel Shady. Charles Maynard was a. business visitor in Preble Friday afternoon. Mrs. M. Koldeway and daughter, of New Haven, were the guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Limtin-’ meier, for a few days. Donald Hoffman is visiting his aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sherlock, of Kendallville, for several days. Joe Straub, of Decatur, was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. John Kirchner and family, Thursday afternoon, and Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Straub and daughters. Mary and Francis, spent the evening with the Kirchner family. The Misses Mary Mclntoch, Bernadine Shraluka, Ruth Roop, Meriatn Parrish, Magdelene Miller and Katherine Archbold, of Decatur, enjoyed a hiking trip to Preble Friday afternoon. Miss Anna Cummins, of Indianapolis, spent the week-end as the guest of Dr. and Mrs. Grandstaff. Miss Katherine North, of Fort Wayne, is spending a few days visiting Mr. and Mrs. A. Shady and family. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Elzey had as their guest for Sunday dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Elzey, of Fort Wayne. Wells County Man Gets Commission In U. S. Navy Bluffton, July 25—8. W. Shoemaker retired farmer, received word that his son Harry has been commissioned a captain in the United State-s navy. Captain Shoemaker is 44 years old and is one of the youngest captains in the navy. He graduated from the Bluffton high school, was appointed to the Annapolis Naval Academy in 1902 and graduated in 1905. During the World war he served on the staff of Admiral Wilson in foreign waters. He will be hero next Sunday for a visit at the home of his father and at that time three brothers also will be home to visit. The brothers are Ernest H., of this city, employed in the Fort Wayne officers of the Indiana Set vice corporation: John Shoemaker, in business at Greensburg, Ind. and Ray Shoemaker, superintendent of building construction in New York city. o ’ Prince Os Wales Turns Pit Boy In Coal Mine London, July 25—UNS)—England's heir to the throne turned pit-boy for an hour recently when he discended the Haig pit of the Whitehaven Colliery Company, rode in a miner's tub through the workings, and at a point more than a mile under the sea, spent thirty minutes at the coal face, during which he bandied the pneumatic picks used in hewing the coal. The Prince wore blue dungaree overalls, black and white check scarf, and a gray peaked cap. Busche motored to Lynn, Indiana, Sunday afternoon to visit with Miss Jones. Miss Louise Busche will accompany them home.
