down bin Dempsey refused to look at him. Up to the seventh round Dempsey * had won every round, although he had often tried and in the first for a moment looked bad. Sharkey had never taken a step forward, and Dempsey 4 had done all the fighting. It reminded the writer of what Dempsey told him in Saratoga a few days ago: "In I’hlfda'ephia." he said. "I figured that If I didn’t had punches into I I Tunney, I would he thrown out of the J ring, and in that fight. 1 learned later. [ |l made the mistake of walking Into I I punches. Never in my life have 1 failed to put up a fight; either for myself or the spectators, and when 1 go into the fight against Sharkey. I'm going to fight." Dempsey did that last night. He fought exactly as he did against .Willard. Brennan. Carpentier, Gib- ' lions Firpo ami Tunney. He doesn’t I know any other way to fignt, Dempsey had gone‘out against Sharkey in every round of the fight. He was scowling, had his head down and kept tearing int oSharkey. Daring the first six round, when Dempsey J was pouring vicious left hooks to the body, Sharkey kept looking at the [ referee, Jack O’Sullivan, who waved him back and said: "Come on and fight.” I Several times during the battle it I looked as if Dempsey was about to 1 go. He had his left eye cut slightly j hut it amounted io little. The crowd was with him and Jack kept courageously on. Sharkey didn’t land one good hard punch during the fight. Once or twice he sent over a right hook that had knocked out Jim Maloney, Sharkey's greatest fight. Dempsey took it on his jaw. and came back in, tearing lefts ami rights I to the body, that had Sharkey almost' crying. o W. A. Klepper attended to business! 1 at Huntington.
