STEPHENSON NOT TO RET A PAROLE Wins Kight To Testify Without Restriction Regarding Politics, However Michigan City, Ind , July 2.—(UP) —D. I' Stephenson has lost his fight for a 90-day parole, but will be permitted to estify without restriction regarding his charges of political corruption and official mis-eonduct by public officers, according to decisions reached late yesterday by the board of trustees of the state prison. Members of the board promised that "Steve," former klan dragon, now serving a life sentence for murder at the prison, may testify before any law enforcement officer or government agency desiring his presence and testimony, either in Michigan city prison, or in any county in the state. Many Revelations Made Issuance of the promise and denial of the parole came as the culmination of a day of important revelations concerning the most "famous" prisoner ever placed in the state instituion. Other developments include the following: , Michael E. Foley, of Indianapolis, secretary of the board of trustees, made a public lengthy report from the state board of charities exonerating prison officials of any unfair treatment of Stephenson and declaring that his complaints were only the natural result of the confinement of a "leader among men” unused to restraint,. Stephenson was seen by four newspaper men during the morning, when they were taken on a tour of the prison by members of the board of trustees. The prisoner was at work in the chair factory, and was called from the shop for the interview, without being informed that newspaper men were at the prison. JO The former klan leader seemed ( anxious to talk, but refused to make any of the charges against public of- ( fleers which he has intimated he will . make if occasion demands.
