Well Byrd is some “bird" at Ilia and bls report will not only be Intel esting but helpful to the now ver: important science of aeronautics. Now they are starling a nationa campaign to put the lire cracker ou of existence. They may succeed bu it:, dollars io doughnuts that if the] do the hoys will find some other waj , to make just as much noise. Don't spoil the Fourth by making Sunday a boistrous holiday. Patriot ism is a fine and wonderful thing which should always be encouraged but certainly no more important than it is to remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy. Boys anil girls should not celebrate the Fourth on Sunday. The ministers of the city are calling attention to that fact and the police have been asked to enforce the law in that regard. Save your fireworks for Monday. Stephenson wants to tell it all again and most of the folks in Indiana would like hear his tale of political corruption and who took part in it. The trouble with Steph is that he is making a deal to get himself out of prison and that doesn't interest very many. Did you cut the weeds? It may not be too late yet if you hurry. We feel sure that the street commissioner and his force would appreciate any aid you would give them in their job. The weeds should be cut and kept down. Its coming to the season of year when they are a real nuisance. And talking about aviators there arc several here for a performance at Bellmont park on Sunday who are n-ciignized a., leaders in that daring, line i,f work. Among them are Del-1 mar Snyder, a U. S. instructor in! aviation during the war and Miss j Gladys Roy who experts to be the first woman to fly across the Atlantic. By the way what has become of the Chinese war, the murders, the terrible things that were filling the front pages up to a few weeks ago? It has all been lost in the news of the boys who are making history in their planes which will live through the ages. The ministers of he city are asking that there be no firing of fire crackers and fire works on Sunday. It is a violation of the law and a

ibbath 1 1 _ * Fourth comes ou Monday and every ,one is hoping that every youngster * will have plenty of fun on that day I hut they uro iisKett to wait until after , I Sunday at mid night to start their I celebrations. . 4 , ,1 These later efforts just prove that I Lindy has the natural Instinct which seems to be necessary to successfully '* start some where and go to a given )0 point In a certain length of time. He 15 did It with a bottle of water, a sand--75 wich or two and a compass that OU wouldn’t work. No wonder they call 00 , , ~ 1 him Lucky. The last three nights have yanked the corn In this section up about three inches and there Is a chance that the average stock will be knee high by the Fourth which is the old — guarantee for a full crop. Showers at and cooler are promised for tonight r- and tomorrow which will be alright i vif its just a shower and not one of those electric storms which makes every one dodge and shiver. MMBBWMWWMM*. 1 al — Indiana has 48,000 miles of stone and gravel roads as compared to 40,Jt 000 in Ohio. Other states far exceed ■ our state on hard surfaced highways ' V but for general good roads few can compare. In the long run the paved roads are cheapest and best for the g upkeep is far less but it should be remembered that our macadam road.; r were built to take us out of the mud and have performed a splendid servn ice. y When Columbus discovered Americ i the news was not received in Spain 1 for months and until very recently S news did not travel rapidly. Scores of heroes died unhonored and unsung ' and only in history years after accomplishment did the adventures of gallant men appear. Not so now. Today achievements are flashed to every nook and corner of the world within i a few moments after they occur. We i f live in the greatest of all ages and we are striving to make it still greater. I America chn well feel proud of the ■records which have been made by her flyers dining the past few weeks. Three planes have sailed across the Atlantic and one to Honolulu and we’re just getting started. The Byrd trip was a wonderful one and after crossing the ocean, the ship was caught in a fog. making a landing impossible. For hours they circled in a vain hope of seeing through and then were forced to land in the channel. The fine part of it ail is that they came through safely and will' continue to serve in the air service of this country. * ¥ .?. if. ******** * BIG FEATURES * * OF RADIO * ¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥s SATURDAY'S FIVE BEST RADIO FEATURES WBAF- Hookup 6:30 p. ni.—Goldman Band.
