California School Girl Sets Record: Never Late Nor Absent Single Day By International News Service Fullerton, Cal. —For school attendance Mabel Evans. 17 year old girl. hold» the record in Fullerton. She is the champio i all-around student of the Fullertown high school. During her four years attendance at the liiKh ( school a check by officials of the institution show Mabel has not misaed a single day. Investigation revealed that Miss Evans started her Fullerton school attendance when she entered the Fullerton kindergarten, also that during the entire 13 years she has been swinging school books to and front school not one absent day has iteen marked up against her. A leader in school activities, Miss Evans for two years has been a member of the high school glee club, she has participated in two operettas, taking leading parts in them: she is a member of the band in which she plays a clarinet: she is a member of the basketball, hockey, interclass baseball and track first teams, and besides playing leads in school plays is starred in the senior play, is a member of the girls’ Tri-Y club of the high school and is an office holder in other clubs in the community. in addition to being music and dramatic editor of the weekly school newspaper. * Roller Bearings To Make Street Cars Noiseless Detroit. June —23 UNS —) Research work now being done by the department of street railways indicates that within a short time street cars will be operated almost noislessly, according to Deli Smith, general manager of the lines. Smith told of experiments being made here, following the successful use of roller bearing porunals by one of the leading railroads. Noise was reduced to a minimum, and Smith said he believes the same results can be accomplished in the operation of street' cars.
