Evansville Heats Fort Wayne, But Gary Licks Both In Enumeration Indianapolis. May IS. — (United Press) — Evansville has won the school population race against Fort Wayne, this year, but the big prize has been snatched by Gary. This is the situation revealed by figures compiled at the department of public instruction. For years there has been a fight between Fort Wayne and Evansville for a place on the state education board for their school superintendent. For the last several years Fort I Wayne has won. being the third largest city in school population. Indeed the feud became so bitter that two years ago a recount was demanded. This year Evansville conquered its old rival with a total of 24,385 pupils again*; Fort Wayne’s 24,219. but Gary, which until a short time ago was a village “somewhere in northern Indiana’’ leaped into the lead with a school population of 24,852 and captured third place, to the consternation of- the two ancient rivals. South Bend is still second with 26,280 and Indianapolis first. Ancient Coptic Language The Coptic language, says tlie Dearborn Independent, descended from the ancient Egyptian, and was used in Egypt till within the last two centuries, but lias n6w been superseded as u living language by Arabic. AT THE PURDUE CLUB ROUND-UP Bertha Schwartz, A dams i County Club Winner, Tells About Her Trip By Bertha Schwartz On the morning of Tuesday. May 3, I. with several other club winners started out oil a trip to Purdue to attend the annual club Round-Up and 1 must say that the trip was very rational and beneficial as well as enjoyable. On our arrival at the Round-Up at| noon we registered and our rooms were assigned to us. The rest of the day was spent in inspecting on the Campus, for there was no program scheduled for the girls Tuesday, j On .Wednesday forenoon there were j canning, clothing and- baking judging! contests, but only the contestants] were admitted and we were not allowed to attend them. We heard many splendid programs at the Fowler ball which consisted mainly of addresses, music, etc. We also enjoyed three songfests with Prof. K. E. Beeson in charge. We also witnessed a debute at the Fowler ball by two hoys from Knox county and two girls from Allen county. The boys said that girls club work makes more efficient citizenship than the boys while their opponents said it is vice-versa. j The Hoof and Horn Club had a very interesting program arranged for Wednesday evening. We also saw the Purdue vs. Michigan baseball game through the courtesy of Prof. N. A. Keilog. On Friday forenoon Miss ina Lindaman gave a demons'ration on the cutting, drawing and canning of a chicken and Miss Gladys Coon of Chicago gave a demonstration talk about the Jewel Box immediately after that. The girls who were visiiing Purdue for the first time made a tour through the Home Economics building and everything was explained to them as they went from room to room. Another feature which proved very interesting was the demonstration team contest in the Union building. We also enjoyed a trip to the Zoological Gardens and other places of interest. i am sure we had a very nice trip and think that the time and money spent was well invested. \OTI( K OF I I N \l SETTLEMENT OF ESTATE \o. za.M Notice is hereby given to the creditors. heirs and legatees of Gustav Fuhl - man. deceased .o appear in the Adanrfc Circuit Court, held at Decatur.
