April 12—(United Press) —State bank commissioners to day were investigating the affairs of of the Porter county state bank of Kouts, which closed Its doors yesterday by order of the commissioner, Luther F. Symons. Thomas D. Barr, Assistant commissioner, left here late yesterday for Kounts to confer with J. N. West, state bank examiner who is in charge of the investigation. He would not dis cuss reasons for the bank’s closing The institution had a capital of $25,000. Hindman, charged with issuing a fraudulent check, the court took the case under advisement. Hindman was returned to jail. Withdraw Appearance Attorneys Thomas Moorehead and William E. Clapham. of Fort Wayne, lave withdrawn their appearance for Sam Goldstine, who, with William Rielly, is facing charges of assault and battery with intent to kill and automobile banditry in the Adams circuit court. Goldstine and Rielly are scheduled to go on trial in court here on April IS. They are being held in the state prison at Michigan City. Case Dismissed The case of the state vs. William Lough, for violation of the prohibition la-w, was dismissed in circuit court after the prosecutor filed a nolle. Lough was sentenced last week to serve from one "to eight years in the state reformatory on a charge of larceny. April Term Opens The April term of the Adams circuit court opened Monday. This term will end on Saturday. June 11, at which time the annual summer vacation will open. Defendant Defaults In the case of Mary Vorhees vs Thomas J. Vorhees, the defendant was called and defaulted. Seek New Trial A motion for a new trial has been filed by the plaintiff in the case of Ambrose Shoaf vs. William Shoaf et al. • —o CUSTOMS COLLECTORS TO STOP RUM RUNNING Detroit And Cleveland Collectors To Have Full Responsibility Along Great Lakes Washington. April 12. — (U.P.) — 1 Customs collectors at Cleveland and Detroit will have full responsibility for stopping liquor smuggling along the Great Lakes sections of their territory, effective May 1, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Andrews announced today. Customs collectors Fenton of Cleveland and Ferguson of Detroit conferred with Andrews today on projected plans for a campaign against rum smuggling. The feedral Detroit border patrol will be placed directly under Ferguson. Andrews said. Allen Knavel, of Union Township, was a business visitor here today.

New fronts will be constructed in both buildings and s’eel ceilings will be installed. A shining parlor and hat blocking establishment will be placed in a room underneath the BSllteird hall, and this room also will serve as the city news stand. It has not been decided whether the cellar under the Eats restaurant will be utilized or not. The remodeling will be completed in the next six weeks, it was stated today. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Leßrun are building a new house on South Third street. The basement for the house has already been constructed and the frame work will be started within a short time. The house will be modern in every respect and will be of the semi-bungalow type. It will contain seven rooms and bath, a breakfast room and a two-car garage at the rear, which will be heated from the house furnace. Oak woodwork will be used upstairs and down and a fireplace will grace the long living room. The house will be a frame structure with a brick porch and. when completed, will be one of the modern homes in the city and in keeping with the several attractive homes on this street. Alfather Builds House William Alfather has construceld modern frame house on North Ninth street, at the rear of the Gregg McFarland lot. The house is of the square type and contains seven or eight rooms. It will be ready for occupancy within a short time. Wotk is being pushed on the new filling station and accessory shop which Harry Staley is building at the corner of Second and Marshall streets. Mr. Staley hopes to have the building ready for use within a few weeks. o Pre-Easter Services A series of pre-Easter services will open this evening at. the Bobo Methodist church. The Rev. E. P. White, pastor, will preach each evening on the last seven words of Christ on the cross. Special music will be a feature each evening. The services will start at 7:30 o'clock. o .. Revival At Bobo U. B. Church Is Continued The revival services are still in progress at the United Brethren church in Bobo. The attendance and interest in the meeting are increasing each night and much good is being accomplished. The Rev. Charles Wyer is preaching powerful sermons. Miss Davis, of Willshire, Ohio, is leading the song service and doing part of the preaching. The services will continue over Easter.
