A conference of state officials of the league, including Mrs. Frank Hatch Streightoff. president; Mrs. H. R. Misner, vice-president; Mrs. Wilbur Templin, president of the local league and Mrs. J. E. Neff of South Bend, was held here last week at which time foundations were laid for the state meeting. National leaders in women's politics will attend the conference here, according to an announcement made by the officers in charge of arrangements including several National officers of the league. Mrs. Elizabeth J. Hauser, vice-presi-dent of the National league in charge of the department of efficiency in government will be one of the principle speakers at the convention, it was announced. Others on the program, tentatively drawn up. inelude Mrs. William G. Hibbard, Xyinetka, 111., director of the Fourth district of the league of Women Voters, Mrs. Florence Harrison, secretary of the Fourth district and others prominent in district .state and national work. With nearly two months in which to complete preparations for the convention. members of the local league are sure they can arrange a three-day program which will benefit women's politics in Indiana for many months. O— — Movies Ruining Papuans Declares Missionary Sydney. — (United Press.) — The “civilization of the west’’ is, shattering the life of the natives in Papua, according to the Rev. B. T. Butcher, for 22 years a missionary in that tropical country. "Diseases hitherto unknown are prevalent,” he said, "and gambling among the natives has become a curse. U. basketball tournament enters its fourth day and the second round. The first three days of battle saw some spectacular bits of playing. Sharpshooters from a dozen states looped baskets from all angles to roll up some of the largest scores in the history of the National touruey. Your petitioners further ask that said highway above described be drained and graded and that the same ed and that the same tie improved to a be improved to a width of forty (10 > feet; that the same be graded to a width of thirty (30) feet, and that surli paving material be placed thereon to a width of twenty (20) feet, and to such depth as may be determined by the proper officials having the same to d4>, ami that the same be called the .James Hurst road Improvement. That to pay for said improvment, we ask that bonds be issued by the County of Adams in the State of Indiana, in twenty semi-annual installments or series, and for the payment of which we ask that a tax be levied upon the taxable property of said Washington Township. in the sum sufficient to pay the interest and principal of said bonds as they become due. That said improvement be made and constructed and said bonds be issued, and said tax levied upon the taxable property of said township in accordance w ith tlte A<ts of the Legislature of the State of Indiana passed in the year 1905, beginning on page 550 and as antmended in the Acts of 1907 ami as amended in the Acts of 1909» now in for.ee providing fo r the extension of free gravel and macadam roads and any amendments thereto.
