For ten rounds the welterweight champion took a terrific di libbing. A "ild right hand failed him unmercifully and the champion was able to win only cne of the rounds. The tenth Simonich was given credit for winning six rounds and three were declared draws. This boy Simonich is an odd fighter lacking all of the technique that goes to make up champions, but he' has one Positive asset. That is his, hand. oBig Ten Track Stars Gather For Indoor Meet , Evanston, 111., Mar. 11. — (United , less *—Frack and field athletes from ail Big T en schools gathered today ’or preliminary events of the Big Ten championship which will be run off tonight. In his first real effort of the season yesterday at Orlando, the babe broke too quickly for first base and picked up a nice Charley-horse and a slight back sprain. He's got a muscle lump on his leg the size of an egg but it can be massaged out,'’ Doc Woods, the Yankee trainer said. The Yankee officials haven’t a horror of Charley-horses but in the case of the Babe they look upon the injury as an indication that his legs are not any sounder than they have been in recent years and he always has had trouble with his locomotive apparatus. . -o —4 — 4- VI- ♦♦ +♦* + +♦♦♦♦♦♦ + ♦’ SPORT TABS + ■>♦♦♦*♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦ Miami, Fla.—Four birdies and near par golf for the remainder of 36 holes gave Tommy Armour and Bobby C'-uickshank the international four ball championship over Walter Hagen and Jock Hutchinson, Thursday, 91 and 8. i Shreveport, La. — Johnny Mostil,' •Chicago White Sox outfielder who attempted suicide, is recuperating rapidly and probably will be able to leave the hospital within three weeks. DECATUR DAILY DEMOCRAT FRIDAY, MARCH 11,1927.

FIELD < GOALS » JX By r * Ju Mark M. Upp FIELD OALS On to Fort Wayne and tame those Tigers! If there is anyone who isn't going to Fort Wayne tomorrow and who will be at home, they can listen in on the regional games, as broadcast through station WOWO. Play by play reports will be given. The wave length of WOWO is 22] meters. Play Hard Tomorrow is an important day for you, Yellow Jackets. You will [ meet a real test. Decatur fans I have great confidence in you. i They believe that you are going to ’ be one of the sixteen teams to fight it out at Indianapolis next week-end. But you must play two full games of the best basketball you are capable of playing, to accomplish that feat, Fort Wayne sport writers, unconsciously, have flung a challenge at you. They have repeatedly questioned your strength and ability, called the triI state tournament, in which you reached the semi-finals, a joke and have taken it for granted that ’.entral will win the regional. This is not a plea for you to beat Central and the yvinner of the Rock Creek-Columbia City game. It is a plea for you to 11PLAY HARD AND CLEAN, take nothing for granted and FIGHT. If you do this, a plea for you to beat Central and the winner of the other game, ' is unnecessary. Will fans from all parts of the state have an opportunity to read “DECATUR’’ on the score cards at the cow barn? Its up to you Yellow Jackets, tomorrow. ■ ...... Best Wishes From Berne “The Decatur Yellow Jackets won the sectional basket-ball tournament played at Decatur, Saturday. They were the best team. They, however, admit that Berne's Fighting Five gave them about all they could handle and that the score of 42 to 17 was hardly a just measure. This Saturday they play x Fort Wayne Central at Fort Wayne in the regional meet. We hope they win, trounce the winner of the Rock Creek-Colum-bia City game and then on to the state meet at Indianapolis and thus bring laurels to Adams county where [they of right belong—at least onceI in-a-wiiile” —Berne Witness. ■ ■■ - Mb IThe Commodores left this morning for Bellevue, Ohio, for a game tonight. Tomorrow night, they will iplay in Fremont, Ohio. Good luck, (fang. Tonight, two of the scrappiest and cleanest fighting teams in the country will clash in the D. H. S- Gym. For years, Central and St. Joe eighth grade teams have been playing an annual series and every game has been a great example of fight, basketball and good sportsmanship. To-

The trophy is an added inducement for the ' teams to play hard tonight, but above everything, that old time sportsmanship should be paramount. May the best team win and may the players and fans further this good sportsmanship, which prompted George Wemhoff to offer this beautiful and valuable trophy.
