GRADE TEAMS TO I PLAY FOR TITLE! C e n t r a 1 And St. Joseph Quintets To Play For I WemholT Trophy Mar.l 1 Friday. March 11, has been set as the dale for the play-off game of the Decatur Catholic Eighth grade basketball team and the Central Eighth grade team city series for the George Wemhoff trophy. The third and de elding game of the seres will be played at the public high school gymnasium. One game has been played at each gym. and a coin was tossed to determine which school could use their home floor for the final game. The Central team won the toss and the game wili be played at the public high school gymnasium. • The Eighth grade series has created considerable interest in the last several years, and this year George Wmiioff, of the Wemhoff Monumental Works, presented the two teams with a beautiful marble trophy, which goes to the winner each year. I.— The Fort Wayne Hoosiers made it two straight over the Rochester Centrals in an ; American ijbague basketball game here last night, swamping the Easterners by a score of 4fl-16. The Hoosiers defeated Rochester Monday nigh:. 64-20. Fort Wayne is firmly entrenched rn third place in the league standing as a result of the victory | last night. Benny Borgmann again ’ led the Hoosires in scoring last night sinking five field goals and eight free throws. He missed three free throws. As on the preceding night, Shimek was his closest competitor. Shimek scored nine outMf 11 free throws. The Hoosiers ran their score to 15 before Rochester scored last night. o— DePauw Drops Contest To Franklin, 48 To 28 Greencastle, Ind., Mar. 2. —(United Press.) —Depauw lost its final game of the basketball season by.a wide margin when Franklin ran wild in the second half and defeated the Tigers. 48-28. The teams were evenly matched in the first half which ended with Depauw on the short end of a 22 19 count. In the final period Franklin 1 ispurted and counted 26 additional points while Depauw fought for 9. Lyons and Wooden of Franklin _were scoring aces garnering 14 and 15 points respectively. Stewart led the Tigers with four fielders and a brace of free throws.

G. E. And Whippets To Clash Thursday Night The Decatur G. E. basketball team j will meet the Kirkland Whippets in l the Decatur Catholic school gymna-1 sitim Thursday night, in the third and deciding game of a series to decide
the independent championship of Adams County. Each team has one victory to its credit. Coach Curtis of Decatur high school, will referee. The G. E. second'team will play the Kirkland seconds in a preliminary game, stalling at 7:30 o'clock. These two teams have a tie to break also, each having won one game in previous encounters. *— 1 o DOG RICES tO ' t BE HELD HERE — Grey Hound Races To Be Feature Os R ac e Meet Here During Next August W. B. Engle, of the Decatur-Mont- 1 pelier racing association, was in this, city, making preliminary arrangements for the race meet to be held at Bellmont park, east cf this city, next August 23-2 G, inclusive. Mr. Engle stated that the coming lace meet would be ope of the best in this part of the state. Each race will have a special name, and a cup .will be awarded the winner of each race, by a local firm. That par-' ticular race will near the name of the' giver of the trophy. One of the big features of the four- ■ day meet. wi(l be life dog races on the opening day of the meet. A kennel of 50 grey hounds lias been secured for the dog races, and it is predicted that thousands of fans from all over the state will come to this city to see the dog races. The other three days'ofthe meet will be devoted to horse raceing. ‘ ' Mr. Engle stated that theassociaticn was assured already of a full card for each race event. One of the largest cat nival companies in the world has been secured for the midway of the features, including a historical pageant, to be giver by 200 children of this city. The night program will be free and no charge will be made tor night ad-1 mission to the grounds or grand stand. Mr. Engle said. It is probable, also, I that the local automobile agencies I will have an auto show, which will add interest to the event. STAGE TOURNEY < I Plans Practically Completed For Sectional Basketball Meet This Week-end Plans are nearly complete for the high school sectional baskethall tournament to lie held in the Decatur high school gymnasium Friday and Saturday. The ticket sale is progress ing nicely. Indications are that about 200 season tickets will be sold in Decatur alone.
