The money is to lie provided in a special deficiency appropriation bill, which'will be rushed through Congress before adjournment, March 4. His officer's top coat had been removed and Sehmauss had apparently exam- . ined his victim and ascertained that he was fatally wounded. ( The rest of the building was not searched until early today when a squad of Anderson police arrived to join in thq. hunt for Schmauss. Officers had thought he fled from the building and had been hunting him in Anderson ami nearby cities. Patrolman Hepfer accompanied by Deputy Sheriff Patterson went upstairs while the house was being searched early today and Hepfer walked alone Into a bedroom. Thinking Schmauss might be under the bed, Hepfer ordered him to come out. Schmauss crawled out. Hepfer said that as the hunted man stood up he made a movement as it to reach for a gun. Hepfer fired three more times ' and Si'Uutuusa fell to the floor, mortally wounded. , When the body of Schmauss was searched it was found he was not armed. Police have not been able to find the gun with which he killed Hughes. The distillery was still in operation when officers reached the Schtnauas home the first time. Offlecrs found that Schmauss had taken a bucket ft water and washed away the blood stains left by Hughes as he staggered to the door alter being shot.
