Person’s Name Can Be Disfiguring To Individual By Hedda Hoyt (U. P. staff Correspondent) Now York, — (United Press) — What’s in a name? Nothing tp be sure. Y et a mime can positively bo disfiguring to an individual. Many ot us have names which could bear altering in older to conform with our personalities. Two-hundred pound Lilya, pale Rosies, unpopular Relles and woebegone Hopes are numerous. Women blessed with more or less meaningless monikers such as Margueret, Katherine, Lucile or Dorothy have nothing to worry about since these names express no particular personalities. Very few people have names which are suited to them since we seldom grow up into the Violets, l ercys, Prudences and Graces which our parents hoped for. Fanciful names which recall old-time novels or early day Pullman cars have made many a sober minded person the subject of redlculo Nicknames likewise ofter cast a damper over one's self-respect. 1 have seen tat and forty-year-old Babies prattling baby talk in effort to cope with thqlr childish nicknames. Names have much to do with im

pressionH one forinH of un Individual When one Is cursed with a ridiculous name ouu should chsnge the name. Often a little altering of the spelling makes the name more suitable to the individual. For instance, 1 have in mind u must eccentric little Miss named Sarah. Sarah did not express her vividness, her unusual vitalness, and so she changed her name to Sarenne which seemed somehow to express her. Often one can use the foreign spelling of their mime to advantage. Helen is a name which Is a g»od Illustration of this Helen may be expressed us Helene. Eleana, Elinor, Elanore, Lenoro Lenora Elleanora, or Ellen. A great many nunies have their foreign equivalents which aie spelled and pronounced differently, t'sually French and Italian pronunciations are a bit softer than English. German pronunciations are a bit more harsh. There is no excuse for one carrylug from birth to the grave a name which is distasteful in any way.
