Only a dozen days in which to do your Christmas shopping. Better not put it off much longer, two weeks from tonight will be Christmas Eve. Christmas seals will make the packages look brighter and better. The little stamps carry the Christmas spirit as nothing else will. As a Christmas gift that will cause you to be remembered every day during the year, we suggest a subscription to the Daily Democrat for your friends away from home. Science is a great thing. It has just been discovered that a mistake was made in the calculation of the speed in travel of rays of light. It is only 186.173 miles per second. Os course for most purposes that will be fast enough but just think of it. we have been fooled all these years. The tax board will ask the legislature for more power, the board of pardons want greater rights, the public service commission want their word to be final. We are drifting steadily but surely to that point where we will have no individual rights. It ought to alarm the voters, but it doesn't seem to. Now the charge has been made that Lawrence Tyson, democrat, spent $1,800,000 to secure the nomination for senator in Tennessee in 1921. That's cheering news for we hadn't any idea any democrat had that much money, if he spent it he should be made to account for it along with Vare and Smith and tire others, but we seriously dou b t the truth .of the charges. A year ago Wyatt Gibbous of near Salem, Indiana, bought a calf for fifty dollars. He cared for it According to rules and entered it in the Junior Stock Show at Cleveland, Ohio, where he took first prize and won a half dozen cash prizes and silver cups. Then Col. lleppert sold his calf at fcuction for $4,125, giving this sixteen-year-old boy a fbai start in life. TMnk it over boys and girls. Perhaps you can do it next year. Any way its worth trying. Mrs. Etra Vat Sic'<ct» Garuser of Indianapolis was elected to the legislature in the recent election and feeling the call to duty has prepared a bill to be presented next month which will provide a fitle and after, the third offense. imprisonment for those failing S® yota. Ju any primary or regular election. Its a silly idea for you can no more legislate patriotism than you can legislate a man into Heaven. We already have too many useless and foolish laws and the legislature should make short work of this one. .'. o- ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦ * TWENTY YEARS AGO TODAY ♦ ♦ * ♦ Twenty Years Ago This Day. ♦ ♦ From the Daily Democrat File 4 Dec. 10. —President Roosevelt re ceives Nobib. award of $40,000 tor hi.efforts in promoting peace.
