COMMODORES BERT GIBAULT Catholic High Quintet Shows Improvement In Winning Game, 36-24 After getting rid of a lot of poor basketball in the games with Delphos and Geneva last week, the Catholic high school Commodores played a much Improved brand of ball last night and triumphed over their old rivals, Gibault high of Vincennes, in an interesting game at the Catholic school gym, by a score of 36-24. The game was looser than the score would indicate, and it was not until the last ten or twelve minutes that the locals pulled away o a safe lead. In the preliminary game, the St. Joseph and Central school eighth grade teams staged one of their usual red hot battles, the former winning by a score of 17-13. St. Joe led 113 at the half, but came back strong in the second period and closed up the the gap to two points. With the score standing 15-13, both fought desperately to score and just before the game ended, Coffee of St. Joe, looped in a long shot that ended the scoring. Three minutes elapsed in the high school game before Wemhoff started the scoring with a short field goal. Theric, of Vincennes, evened the score with a field goal, but Wemhoff gave his team the lead again with another field goal, Vincennes took time out. Kohnen scored one point on Petie Mylott's personal and then Meyers and Hocky Mylott scored field goals. Two more field goals and a free throw by Meyers gave Decatur a lead of 13-3. Vincennes took time out again and when play was resumed started a rally that was not halted until the half ended, with the score standing 13-9. Kohnen scored a free throw at the start of the second half, cutting the lead to three points. Then the Commodores rallied and Smith. Petie My. lott and Meyers scored field goals.
