J„ Nov. ,3V.-- (United Press)—The state today began Its attempit to establish the good reputation of Mrs. Jane Gibson, tbe woman who appeared so dramatically on a sick bed and was the state’s star witness in the Hall-Mills murder trial. But the opening report met rebuff. A good attendance is desired. o Enemies Os Direct Primary Laying Pl3ns Indianapolis, Ind., Nov. 30. — (United Press) —Enemies of the direct primary in Indiana today are preparing to wage a figtff against the system in the next session of the state leg islature. Senator C. Oliver Holmes, of Gary, former champion of the direct primary system, is the latest to announce his intention of supporting a measure for furthering of the convention system. Holmes declared the direct primary system had been given a fair test and found to be unsatisfactory. He said he would favor return to the convention system for congressional and county as well as state nominations. Amending the primary to allow the selection of all state nominees in a state convention and congressional nominees in congressional district conventions were advocated by Holmes. He would retain the primary only for the election of convention dele_o Valentino’s Double Discovered In Italy Rome (United Press)—A perfect "double” of Rudolph Valentino lias re cently been found in the city of Trieste in the person of Giordano Venturini a clerk 'in a lawyer’s office. He is unmarried, 27 years old and accomplished musician, and has never been in the movies. Venturini was discovered in a newspaper contest where he was unanimously proclaimed Valentino's exact physical likeness.

Hawkins et ,d. the court found for tho plaintiffs and awarded judgments in their favor in the sums named in the complaint. I New Trial Denied A motion for a new trial in the case of Levi W. Kimmel vs. the Bank of Poneto, venued here from Wells county, was denied by Judge Sutton.' The trial resulted in a verdict far the plaintiff for $25,000. Set For Trial The case of Stanton vs. Purdy has been set for trial on January 7.
