BERNE HAS NEW CAGING QUINTET Mennonite Young Men Organize Club Anil Place Basketball Team In FMd Pern®, Nov. 23—The Mennoni’o Young Men's Athletic Club, to be known at the M. Y. M. Club, has been cr-.inized her® by the young men of thr congregation of the first Mennonite church of Berne. The club has organized for the purpose of putting an independent basketball team in the field. The team has been formed i and practice sessions started. The first I game will be played with the Fort Wayne Plymouth Congregational church team, in the community audi- 1 torium here. Saturday night. Novem | ber 27. The M. Y. M. team is being coached by Roy Giiod. Tlie officers are: Mer lin E lenberger. manager; Myion Lehman. secretary-treasurer; Hermat Bagley, captain. The lineup will b< chosen from the following players o> others who may join the club later: Kermit Baumgartner. Harmon Bagley Myron Lehman. Norman Winteregg Earl Winteregg. Lewellyn Stucky. Mur vin Lehman. Iris Lehman, John Nuss baum. Merlin Ellenberger. Arlie Hab egger and Henry Gilliom. Eight games have been scheduled and others will be booked soon. • FOUR TEAMS OUTSTANDING Notre Dame, Stanford. Navy And Alabama Great Grid Teams Os Season By Henry L Farrell, (U. P. Staff Correspondent) New York, Nov. 23. —With the foot ball season finished in several sec lions of the country and a number o sectional chantpions officially e§tab lished. arguments turn to the nath* al rating of the teams. Alabama, winner of the conferenc, championship, and Loyola are tw< great teams in the south; Southert Me.hodist. winner of the southwest ern conference championship, must have a good team: Michigan am Northwestern, tied for the westeri conferenoe championship have to b< strong teams in strong company Missouri, while held to two ties am defeated once, has the honor in the Missouri Valley conference and Regi College has made quite a name in the Mountain district. Notre Dame, Stanford, Navy an Alabama are established, however, a the great teams of the season. Notre Dame beat Northwestern am the Army; Stanford cleaned up every thing in the far west and Alabam: mopped up in the south; Navy is jus one of the several undefeated team; remaining in the east but the Nav; defeated Purdue, Drake, Princeton Colgate and Georgetown and defeat ed Michigan, one of the stronges teams. Games that are scheduled to comi and post-season games that may bi arranged may clarify the situation o; may make it more scrambled. If Notre Dame beats Southern Cali fornia, it will have a record gooi enough for first claim but if Alabam: an<l Stanford play and Stanford beati Alabama, Stanford will have a clain just as good and if Alabama shouli beat Stanford. Alabama's claim can't be tossed out. If Southern California should beat Notre Dame —and Notre Dame is not „ a cinch bet and Alabama beats Stan ford, then Alabama would look like a number one. The Navy has to be figured. If the Navy beats the Army Saturday in Chicago. Navy's rating will be hard to establish but the argument will be made that Navy beat Colgate on a lucky break *a n d just skimmed through against Princeton and Georgetown. Among the other undefeated teams in the east Brown has to be considered but too t|uch notice may have been given to Brown's victories over Dartmouth, Yale and Harvard, victories over teams that would have been a national sensation a few years ago hnt Dartmouth, Yale and Harvard ■ were below first class rating. o Fort Wayne Basketball Team Wants Contests The West Creighton basketball team, of Fort Wayne, desires games to lie played on opponents’ floois, with in-
dependent teams In Decatur mid vicinity. Tooms desiring to book games are a-k> <l to write R. <’ Rost, 1131 Tayi Jorstri--'. For' Wayn, * • FIELD ZX GOALS J A I; By Mark M. Upp Basketball fever is spreading rap- , idly. Cold weather is hindering the knockers in combattirtg the disease. The General Electric eagers, following some diligent practice sessions since their game with tije Bluffton Junior Moose las| week, will stack up against the Fort Wayne Red Crowns in the - D. H. You Tell ’Em "We understand that Coach Case was in the Capital City yesterday. : and we hope he brought home some equipment for the Second team. I First, they need a new ball with handles on. Then some baskes iboui the size of an overgrown wash-1 tub. Also some hair nets to hold their hair in place. Friday night ibout all a couple of them did, so far| as we could see. was to smooth their | hair down. If Case didn’t get all these •hings. we hope Santa will bring them on Christmas.” — Time Out, i Frankfort Morning Times. — The Catholftshigh Commodores are ready for the Bellevue, Ohio quin+nt, which invade tyis city Wednesday night. If all reports are true, the Commodores Will have to ptay forty minutes of first class basketball to turn in another win. But they can do it. ————— f Those Kokomo Wild Cats are sti i tame. The Yellow Jackets are going to Auburn Wednesday night, de- ; termined to defeat Coach Zeke ..Young's- team. This will also take forty minutes of real basketball, bu: if the Yellow Jackets show the old fight like they did last Friday night and play the game they are capable of, they will turn the trick. We hope Curtis’ men see red tomorrow night and we don’t merely mean Auburn. Rip Offs, in the Bluffton News, notes in his esteemed column that -‘‘Decatur's Y’ellow Jackets won their first game of tfye season—the first they have played, over Monroeville last night. The count was 50-17. Somewhat one-sided.” The Celina Standard discovered Monday that the Commodores played the Celina Catholics in Celina Friday night. There was no account of the game in Saturday's paper. After stating that Meyer scored 26 points for the Commodores in that game, the Standard goes on to say that Robert Maher, Celina guard, "deserves mention for his work in checking the speedy Meyer, for i the latter has a record of averag- , ing about 30 points a game.” } Yeh, Maher must have been out- , side the gym checking Meyer’s [ street clothes. Coach France Conter states that B the Commodores have scheduled a . game with the Union Center team 'from Wells county to be played in this city. s a Contribs! Contribs! Send 'em To Mark M.
