COMMODORES BEAT CELINA > "" 1 Decatur Catholic Hijfh Five Easily Wins From Buckeye Quintet, 44-14 ? Backed by a hundred Decatur fans, , the Decatur Catholic high sch.ool Commodores journeyed to Celina. 0.. ast night and handed the Immaculate high school quintet of that city a 44-14 defeat. It was the second victory in three days for the Commodores. Although the Celina floor is much smaller than the one in the Commodores gym. Coach Center’s men showed a marked superiority over he Buckeyes. “Mongo" Meyer ran wild after the first few minutes of the game and scored a total of 12 field goals and two free throws. Fredie Mylott paired with Meyer at forward last night, and the little freshman played nice bail. Coach 1 Center used nine players in the game. Smith Scores First Smith opened the scoring when he . shot a field goal shortly after the ' tamp started. A little later. Fredia Mylott sank a two-pointer and then Meyer found the basket. The first half ended with the Commodores leading 17-5. Coach Confer substituted Jerome Mylott and Connell for Sorg and Fred Mylott at tjje start of •he second quarter. At the beginning of the second half. B. Wemhoff and Alberd ng substituted for A. Wemhoff and Smith. Berne and Decatur successfullywarded off the invasions of out-of-the-county teanj|s. while the Catholic Commodores made a successful invasion of Celina, Ohio. Kirkland and Monroe did not fare so well in their invasions of Wells county, both meeting defeat. I The Yellow Jackets got away to a fine start on their 1926-27 season. Their 50-17 victory over Monroeville, one week after the end of the football season, is notable. The five players who started the game for Decatur were working beautifully togeth- 1 er and the score undoubtedly would have oeen much higher, , had not Coach Curtis decided to give other members of the squad a trial. His substitutes put up a good defense, but their offense was not quite so powerful. Berne’s Fighting Five was called upon for all it had to defeat the
scrappy New Huven outfit. The Blue and WJiite five lacks the offensive punch which characterized lust year’s Berne team. The Commodores had another nice little workout at Celina, Ohio last nighty Last night’s contest was less strenuous than the one against the Hartford Gorillas here Wednesday night, and Coach Center had a chance to try out his players more thoroughly. Meyer found his basket eye last night and rang up twelve “buckets." Monroe is having a % d sastroun start this season. The team is made up of young and inexperienced play-, ers. but if they keep up their fighting spirit they should gain some valuable experience before the season te over and get. going by tourney time. There was only one senior on the Yellow Jacket team started by Coach Curtis last night, namely Joe Bebput. Incidentfy, Joe played a mighty nice game. There Were two juniors. Annadell and Reynolds; one sophomore, Krick, and one freshman. Gerber. Os the nine players used in the game* only two were seniors, Bebout and Somers. Yellow Jacket fans are looking at the world through rose colored glasses. Kirkland's Kangaroos are having tough sledding so far. also, having lost two of their three games played. Coach Mitchell's boys are Improving, however. Several high scores were run up over -the state fast Seymour and Mitchell must have kept the score keepers busy when the former won, 59 56. The Yellow/Jackets sure looked stunning in their new purple sweat shirts and trousers last night. They don’t intend to take off their hats o any team this season on looks or playing.
