FIGHTING FIVE BEATS GENEVA Borne High School Wins Basketball G 4 m e Bv Score Os 30 To 9 Rittia, Nov. B—The Fighting Five of Borne high school had things pretty much its own way in a basketball game with the Geneva high school quintet .here Saturday night. Berne winning, 30-9. It was Berne's second victory in three games this fallFully five minutes elapsed in the game Saturday night before either team could score. Smith, the only veteran on the Berne team, broke the ice with a field goal. Brown evened the count for Geneva, but Smith counted again, giving Berne the lead which was not lost again during the game. The first half ended with Berne leading. 12-4. Haecker and Smith did most of the scoring, the former" getting five field goals and the latter, six. Nov. B—(United Press)—! Four midwestern teams have survived the bruising grind of the early season contests, and are ready for the tests on the coming Saturday which promises to make or break three of them. _ I I Ohio, one of the best teams in the Western conference, meets Michigan, which is like the Buckeye eleven, unbeaten in its own league. The other western conference contender is Northwestern, which has still to meet Chicago and lowa be fore it can claim an interest in the Big Ten title. Chicago—next Saturday's opponent, should be easy, but the lowa eleven may furnish a last minute surprise. Notre Dame is the other unbeaten team. The thundering herd from South Bend goes to New York to meet the Army Saturday. The eleven which comes out victorious in this game may be national i champion. I If Notre Dame wins, it still has to go against Drake, Carnegie and Southern California, the coast eleven, of course ranking as the hardest of this trio. The Army has the Navy to meet before it can claim a national title, if it beats Notre Dame. In the conference, Illinois may still be reckoned with. If Michigan goes down before the best team Ohio has had since Chick Harley's day, the Buckeyes will still have to beat Illinois to sustain a clean record. The Hartford City high school ( football team closed its season last Friday, dropping the final game to Bluffton, 16-6. Hartford City failed to win a game this season and the team scored only two touchdowns for a total of 13 points during the season. Their opponents scored 195 point?. C. Stephenson, L. G. Julian, of Evansville, today refused to divulge befoy (he Marion county grand jury what deposition had been made of the documenta. Julian, a former business associate of the deposed klan dragon, was taken before Chas. Wiltsie, special judge in criminal court, and lengthy arguments were held on whether Julian

should be rn<iuired\ to answer the question. Judge Wiltsie announced after hearing the arguments that he would rule this afternoon on the right of the state to compel Julian to answer. At the outset of his examination this morning Julian refused to an[swer the questions put to him before | | the grand jury and was taken into ' court, where Judge Wiltsie ordered him 10 answer. 1 Questioning of Julian was resumed in the grand jury room but shortly before noon Prosecutor Wm. M.
