MRS. WHETCRAFT LEAVES HOSPITAL Woman Republican Leader Creates Latest Political Sensation Indianapolis. Ind.. Oct. 28. The latest political sensation in the Indi- J ana campaign is the myxterloua f’.iglit of -Mrs. Vlvirn Tracy Wheatcraft. James E. Watson’s woman manager and vice-chairman of the republican state central committee, from a hms pital at St. Louis. On Tueaday, Mrs. Wheatcraft was reported to be too ill to leave the hospital to testify itefore the Reed senatorial investigating committee as to her ’’poison squad" organisation ami campaign expenditures in the Watson primary campaign. Within 30 hours, Mrs. Wheatcraft left the hospital, according to hospital attachees, with her brother, bound for Indianapolis. Inquiry here by th*’ Indianapolis Star disclosed that her husband. Bruce Wheatcraft, hail been waiting at the Severin hotel here, headquarters of the republican state central commit tee. He left there shortly before midnight, going to a garage in company with another man. according to the Slar. presumably to get his car to take Mrs. Wheatcraft to her home. .Mrs. Wheatcraft had been in Okla homa and Missouri, as representative of the republican women of Indiana, in organizing the republican women of these states. When she was ousted as head of the womens bureau of the republican state committee here, she was sent out of the state to work for the republican national congressional committee by Congresaman Will R Wood, of the Tenth Indiana congressional district, chairman of the com mittee. The now famous interview, in which Mrs. Wheatcraft told a correspondent of the Baltimore Sun and a representative of a number of leading republi can newspapers in Indiana of her 'poison squads," was introduced in evidence before the Reed committee It had been the intention of Senator Reed to question her. but he was prevented by affidavids by her husband and statements by a physician that she was too ill to appear before the committee. in that interview, which Mrs. Wheatcraft denied at the time, but OUCH!
