S. Boat And Chinese Army Reported Washington, Sept. 16. — (United Press.)—An artillery duel between the American gunboat Pigeon and Chinese civil war forces at Chlngling Ki, near Hankow, was reported to the state department today by Consul General Frank P. Lockhart. No casualties were reported by Pigeon, which returned machine gun fire after being fired upon by a Chinese battery. Though the attacking party was not identified in the report. It Is supposed to have been a battery of radical Cantonese forces, who generals recently promised Lockhart American gunboats would not be attacked.
