Mellett, Canton, Ohio, publisher. He is 28 years old; 5 feet, 4 1-4 inches tall; pale blue eyes; weight, about 127 pounds; medium fair complexion; hair, light chestnut, and u barber by trade. Ora Slater, chief investigator in the effort being made to solve the mys terious killing, has issued a call that any information concerning McDermott he immediately forwarded to him by telegraph or telephone at 308 Daily News Bldg., Canton. Mellett, began a search for new evidence today as the story of Steve Kascholk, the “Mysterv Witness” held in county jail, showed possible weaknesses. Kascholk told of being hired with Patrick McDermott, for whom a Na-Won-lwide search is under way, to "beat up" Mellett. naming their em ployers. He withdrew the last minute, he said, but McDermott remained in Canton until after the assassination. While every angle o f Kascholk s statement was investigated and the search for McDermo t continued, the citizens’ committee appointed to straighten out Canton's political tangle held another secret meeting.
