GOLF ETIQUETTE IS BEING TAUGHT Board Os Governors Os Country Club Trying: To Teach Rules To Members Several member* of the board of governor* of the Decalin* Country Club have buslwl themselves during the last few day* trying to leach the etiquette of golf to the many new fans in Decatur. They have asked that the Demo crat publish a temporary list of rules and regulations which have been written by one of the members of the board as follows: • v When some person Is sweating iin-| der the sensitiveness of driving off the tee in front of a gallerj, pira.-np omit the "wise cracks" and flowers. The less talking on the course, the more it will be appreciated after the game is over. Persons playing or accompanying players should never talk when someone Is driving. Il just Isn't done. Don't ever drive through another player, without first gaining permission, and then if it appears tha. there is danger of hitting some one, always remember that it is easier to say "fore" than it is to pay a doctor's bill. Always keep an accurate score before you tell the world you made it in •‘3B”. because Explorer Cook got into a lot of trouble once for stretching his score at the North Pole. If you are playing along and see a trail besides your own, don't pick it up. The owner may be over by the railroad looking for his wife's. Always call “foie" Just as you shoot and not, after you have struck some person. Golf is a great game and it developes your vocabulary a lot. hut be careful what you say, especially when there are ladies and children around. Remember, the caddy s human ami far from perfect and he likes to hear a good word if he does well just like the man who mows your lawn. There are almost 200 members oi the club now. and the present temporary course is often crowded. Never shoot up to the green when someone else is playing that green. Always keep out of "killing" distance. If you have it in for someone, you can hire a "gunman" to do the job in Chicago for sso. Children ami yount people who arc not members are asked to get permission Io play from the management. If you play without pe mission. it's just like coming over for dinner uninvited. There are no set rules for temporary greens regarding the scoring. Winter rules are always in effect on new courses. It is usually conceded that if a ball is within six inches tnot six feet I of the hole it is good on the next shot, without taking the shot. But always add one to the score end don't subtract > ■■ c ■ subtracted from your sc ,-e. There is no such thing as single discount in goP. but it is a Scotch game. If you are in doubt about some phase of the game, ask someone who knows. It is just as impolite to break the laws of golf etiquette as it is to eat with your knife at a banquet. It takes as much cooperation to have a successful golf course as it does to have an "old home week," or anything else. When a person behind you calls "fore", always signal him by raising
