He bPld down the keystone sack on the baseball team and was noted espes-ial-ly f o r bis ability to "deliver In the pinches.” The appointment of Nipper as head of the Freshman athletic regime at Butler is the first step in the strengthening of this department, according to Athletic Director Hinkle, who has worked out plans for givihg unusual attention to the yearling teams. The Bulldog entor believes that the proper training of the first year men is one of the most important parts of an athletic system and he expects to put special emphasis on this department during the coming year. Nipper is thoroughly acquainted with the system of play which will be used in the vatlous sports and is in every way qualified to carry out the scheme whish Athletid Direltor Hinkle has worked out. o —— State Road 21 Being Widened Near Portland Portland. July 14 — The treacherous grade on state road 21, just south of tnis city near the Portland Country Club, is being widened. Work on the grade was started Monday. The road will be widened to the regulation width, so that automobiles may easily pass on the grade without danger of going over the side. An automobile wreck a week has been the average at this point on the road and several of the accidents have resulted in serious injury to the occupants of the' cats. ■ — ■ o— Mrs. Fisher Gets Divorce Paris, July 14. — (United Press) — Mrs. Jane Fisher today obtained a divorce from Carl O. Portland, July 14.— (The first contingent of Portland boys—twenty-six in all--departed Monday morning, via motor, for Camp Crosley, where they will enjoy a week’s outing at the Y. M. C. A„camp. On Monday. July 19, the second contingent, larger than the first, will motor to the camp, and the first group of boys will return home. New Stock Yards Opened Portland, July 14. —The Protland Union Stock Yards company enjoyed a fine business last Saturday, the opening day of the new business enterprise. which is located on the site of the old G. R. & 1. stock yards in the north part of the city. Forty-four farmers marketed 321 head of livestock and the sales totaled $7,000. o Coroner Is Sued. Logansport. Ind, July 14. — (United Press,)—Dr. M. H. Stewart, coroner of Cass county, was defendant today in a SI,OOO alienation of affection suit brought by William Kelley, railway shop employe. The suit alleged intimate relations existed between the doctor and Mrs. Kelley for several years. — o ..Liquor Flows Freely Indianapolis, Ind, July 14. —(United Press)—Liquor flows too freely in the neighborhood of Robert Whitlow, he told police today. In a work, improvement in the rural home, school, church, social life, city and country relations and agricultural prosperity, sums up the topics which will be covered during the two days and they contain potentialities which directly or indirectly will mean much to all con eerned. Improvement in the rural home will be the subject of the talk by Mrs. L. G. Vannice, of Amo at the opening • of the conference, following an addI ress of welcome by President E. C, Elliott.
