Johnson. 50, a member of Roosevelt's Rough Riders during the Spanish-American war. died Monday afternoon, at the home of his mother. Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, at Warren Mt. Johnson joined the Rough Ridert troop at the opening of the war and served with distinction throughout. This not only Improves the flavor and makes It more pleasing In appearance, but It Is more nourishing and enjoyed by ail. | Boiled Dressing.—Beat two eggs light, without aeparatlng; add one |cupful of mild vinegar (dilute with t water If the add Is very strong), add , one teaspoonful of salt, one-founb tenspoonful of pepper, one-half tea- ‘ spoonful of sugar, and oce-fourth cupful of butter, melted. Mtz well and put over hot water. Stir constantly until the dressing is thickened: cool and serve with an addition of whipped cream or olive oil. Fish Disnar, —Take two pounds of haddock, cod or halibut, tie in a j cheesecloth and boll in salted water until tender. Cook a cupful of rice in boiling salted water. Chop one quart ! of cooked spinach, season with but- | ter, arrange with chopped beets In 1 small mounds around the fish. Serve ! very hot Cucumber Sauce.—Pare two cucumbers and cut into quarters lengthwise, 1 remove the seeds if large, chop fine. , and squeeze dry. The folg lowing are choice recipes which will add variety to those already cherished: Almond Cake. —Cream one-third of a cupfnl of butter, add one cupful of sugar, one-fourth cupfill of milk, the yolks of n—■ six eggs well beaten, and one eupful of flour sifted with one teaspoonful of baking powder. Flavor with the grated rind of a lemon. Beat the whites of the eggs until stiff, add one cupful of sugar and one cupful of chopped almonds. Tut on top of the cake when it is ready to go into the oven. Bake In a slow oven. This may be baked In layers and put together with whipped cream, making a very delicious cake. Sponge Cake—Beat the yolks of six eggs until thick, add one cupful of sugar gradually and continue beating; add one tablespoonful of lemon Juice, the grated rind of a lemon and the whites of the eggs beaten stiff. , When the whites are partially mixed add one cupful of flour and a little j salt. Bnke one hour In an angel food pan. Rochester Chocolate Cake.—Cream one-fourth of a cupful of butter, add one cupful of sugar gradually, and then add two squares of melted chocolate, two well-beaten eggs, one-half cupfcl of milk one and one-third cupfuls of flour mixed and sifted with three teaspoonfuls of baking powder. , and one-half teaspoonful of salt.
