Willard Wilson, and Albert! Shrinker, of Elwood, were arrested | a t Marion last night, charged with kidnapping Mrs, Sullivan’s daughter. Evelyn Wilson, 12, from the home of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ainos Byrd, near Tocsin, 10 miles west of Decatur, about 2:30 o’c loc k Friday afternoon. The child had been left with Mr. and Mrs. Byrd by her mother. Rix years ago. Mrs. Sullivan and the two men were arrested after a thrilling chase from Tocsin to Marion, led by Sheriff Forester McClain, of Wells county, who was notified of the kidnapping about 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon. Child Found In Garage The child was found in a garage in Marion where the abductors had left her. She was returned to the Byrd home today. According to the story of the abducting as related by Mrs. Byrd, the child and Mrs. Byrd were in the front yard of the Byrd home when an automobile drove up and stopped. Wilson. the child’s brother, it is said, alighted from the automobile, enter ed the yard and struck Mrs. Byrd, knocking tier clown, while Shrinker grabbed the girl and carried her to (CONTINUED OX PAGE THREE) o Funeral Os Perry Elzey Held Today Funeral services were held this morning or Perry Elzey, civil war veteran, from the home on Sixth street. Hundreds of cities in Illinois. Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota. Nebraska, lowa, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma will be served by the new firm which will be a consolidation of the Middlewest Utilities Company, The North America Company, and The North American Power and Light Company. Much Property Involved Announcement, of the merger Ipte yesterday, was viewed in Chicago financial circles as the most impot'ant transfer of property in this territory for several years. The three Merging companies represent a tot.i capitalization of more than $1,000,000.000 and the gross earnings o' these firms last, year was estimated at $200,000,000. MORE OIL WELLS ARE BROUGHT IN I New Well Shot Friday On ’ Stengel And Craig Farm; Harmon Well Is Good A new oil well, which gives prom.se of being a heavy producer, was shot Friday evening on the Stengel and Craig farm, four miles northeast of Berne. The well was drilled to a depth of more than 1,080 feet, 40 feet of which are in promising pay sand. Thirteen days were spent by the drillers in fishing for a hit that was lost in the well. The wel) drilled by J. IL Harmon and his associates of Mansfield, Ohio, on the John Niblick farm, five miles east of Berne, and which was put on pump a week ago, lias been bidding up at better than 50 barrels per day. This well is said to he a crevice well and was not shot. It is expected to prove to be one of the best producers in the state of Indiana. All storage tanks on the ground are filled and a new tank arrived Thursday tn take care of the well’s production. Well Attracts Many Visitors Oil men from all parts of the country have been visiting the Harmon well this week and an extensive drilling campaign is expected to start soon in this field. Oil producers say that a well that shows only two or three barrels natural before shooting, usually will make 50 barrels or more after it is shot. Taking this Into conslderatioty the Harmon well likely would make several hundred barrels after it is shot. Harmon and Watts are drilling a well on the William Smitley farm, a short distance southwest of the Niblick well. i Rehulte and- Haney are drilling their No. 5 well on the old Runyon farm in Blue Creek township. Frank and Arn have commenced a new well on the Daniel Hawbaker farm, two miles southwest of Berne along the Wabash river. fl. S. Dr. Gottschalk was a member of the ktaff of the Moe hospital in Sioux Falls. Thurman A. Gottschalk, of Bertie, a brother, ami Mrs. E. K. Shalley, of Pkirt Wayne, a sister, were at Sioux Falls when Dr. Gattschalk's death occtired. having gone there this week, following the recipt of messages telling of their brother's serious illness The body will be returned to Berne for burial. Christian Endeavor Convention A dozen of the young people of the local United Brethren church will leave Monday for Lake Wawasee, Oakwood Park, to be in attendance at the Christian Endeavor convention and Training school, which will continue there for a week. The local society has a cottage tented there and will remain throughout th,, convention The convention this year promises to he Ute largest attended in the history of the denomination. The order of the convention program includes the great four fold program. Worship, Service. Instruction and Recretation. In the morning, the hours are spent in study classes until at 111:30 o'clock, when the convention convenes in the big auditorium. A convention period is also held from 1:30 to 2:30 o'clock. At these convention periods, the best talented speakers of the denomination will give addresses. From 2:30 to 6:10 o’clock the time is given over to recreation and then the convention meets again in the evening. The Rev. Cecil R.
