Foreign Representative! Carpenter A Company, 111 Michigan Avenue, Chicago Well, kids, we waited a long time and we all boosted hard, but we finally got the swimming pool, a real one. with dressing rooms and every thing—and it was worth it, wasn t it ? Four inches of snow fell in Alberta, Canada, yesterday so we may expect a downward trend of the weather about the first of the week unless the flurry blows northward instead of in this direction. Even President Coolidge admits it now seems necessary to elect Porter, the democratic candidate for senator in lowa to- get rid of Brookhart, whom they call a socialist. Porter is a higli grade, conservative and able man who will represent the western state if elected. Don’t object because you are required to secure a health certificate before you can enter the new swim ming pool. That’s the state law and a very good one for it assures protection for you in several ways and makes the pool a safe bathing place. Every boy and every girl as well as the older folks should consider that the new park and pool is partly theirs and help in keeping it in such condition that every visitor will speak of it. Don't mark up the buildings or concrete or let any one else do it. The storm dispersed the crowd at the Municipal park last evening before the band concert was over and before the program arranged to dedicate the new swimming pool could be •feiven, but it held off long enough to assure every one that the people appreciate the wonderful improvement and that- it will be easily the most popular place in town. — Governor Lowden will visit Denmark and the other principal agricultural districts of Europe this summer to make an intensive study of farm co-operatives. The significance of this visit is the promise it gives of a continuing farm program, regardless of the turn of senatorial elections and of campaigns. What is happening in congress this year is not determining of the issue. Governor Lowden's return from Europe will mark the beginning of the real contest, if this congress adjourns without doing anything.—Des Moines Register. Citizens at Hartford City are working up quite an excitement over a klan and anti-klan campaign and are even talking about calling the militia to prevent further disturbance. It geems foolish that people will encourage such a feeling as exists there according to the stories sent out from ■ that city. They ought to profit from the Herrin. Illinois, experience of the past several years for that’s where such affairs ripen to unless the sane citizens think, stop and beware. The less attention given fantics, the better it is for every one. 99 U. 11 "" July 2nd and 3rd will be road days in Adams county when Prof. Petty, of Purdue University, will mate a survey and will address those interested in this important work. Superintendent Magley will arrange a meeting of his workers to be addressed by Mr. Petty and plans are now underway for a big public meeting on Friday evening. We congratulate the city administration for the completion of the new swimming pool and the improvements made at the city park. Its a line advertisement for any city and ne are proud of it. Steps in progress such as this, continued from year to year is the difference between good towns and poor ones and the biggest asset in Decatur is her light and power and water plant. Its ours, its a good one and its a money maker. Much credit is also due H. M. DeVoss, former mayor and his council wbo began the improvement and planned the expense as a part of the budget. The park in a short time will be a most attractive spot and the pool will furnish delightful and refreshing amusemet for hundreds of boys and girls and men and women. The senate investigating committee, digging up facts and figures and frauds in the recent Pennsylvania primary have already discovered that 11,394,500 was spent by the three candidates and are still finding more. It was apparently as disgraceful as the famous Michigan election which resulted in the arrest, conviction and eventual ejection of Newberry. Sen ator George Wharten Pepper, administration candidate and friend of President Coolidge, expended more than a million dollars, showing to what length these enemies of the west and the farmers will go. Vare. who beat him, spent $153,000 of his own money and there is no doubt that several hundred thousand was spent by his friends and by his organizations. Pinchot let go of about $200,000. Its a rotten business, anyway you figure it. o • gStSRRSSSBSKK»BS>| ■ TWENTY YEARS AGO TODAY I M M From th# Dally Democrat Flla ■ H Twenty Years Ago Thia Day E H • June 12. 1906. J. P. As it’s given to me to see, I have come to this conclusion: Telling God what ought to be • Is impertinent intrusion, a So when I get down to pray I just ask for what is best And the strength to face the day And tlie faith to meet the test. As I run my own life through, 'Spite of all the pains I'm taking. I'm ashamed to sit and view All the blunders I’ve been making. I've so bungled my affairs, Doing what 1 thought was wise, That I've ceased to put on airs And I fear to criticize.
