Eighth street south from Monroe to Adams street, was granted by the dtyi council in aesalon last evening. The street will be improved brick and curbing on both sides of tho street ami a cement sidewalk along) the entire west side and from Jeffer-j sou street l<> Adams street on tho east, side. As thro are no sidewalks or residences on the east side of the etreet from Monroe to Jefferson street, the council, at the luggestion of the petitioners, eliminated this stretch. The city engineer was instructed, and plans and specifications for the improvement will be constructed this summer. The petition for a sidewalk on Walnut street was also granted by the council and the engineer was instructed to prepare plans for the improvement. The petitions for erecting a street light at the intersection of Fifth and Jackson streets and on Indiana street, I east of the Pennesylvania tracks, was referred to the electric light coin-
I mittee. The petition of Floyd Acker for the I construction of a sewer in the Meibers I addition in the north part of the city, I was referred to the street and sewer I committee. ■“ The petition of Ed Ahr for tho constructlon of a ten-foot cement side- ] walk on the south side of blast Madison street from the alley back of the Peoples Loan and Trust company building to First street, was referred to the street and sewer committee. The purchasing committee reported the purchase of 1,500 feet of new fire hose. A communication from C. H. Colter, relative to the safety signal in the center of Second street at the intersection of Jefferson street was received and the matter referred to the committee on public safety.
