STATE PRIMARY HOLDS INTEREST Candidates Pin Hopes On Decision Os Panners At The Polls —* n Ind Innnpolls, -nd.', May •> <inn'«i Press) Tile farm vote furnished the big puzzle for politicians today in the Indiana primary situation as the campaign drew to a close. All of the candidates for senatorial nominations of. both political parties have mad** a bid for the farmer s ballot by pledging their support to legislative aid for him and advancing various remedies for his ills. Supporters of the candidates opposing Senator Watson and Robinson in the republican race are counting on some strength for their candidates from farmers who are dissatisfied with the delay in agricultural relief by the present congress. Weather conditions during the balloting tomorrow will have an important bearing on the size of the vote cast by the rural population, it is pointed out. The farmers are far behind with their spring work and a warm, clear day will find them reluctant to take the time off to go to the polls. In the cities, a fair day would make for a larger vote than would a rainy day, which would keep many us the women voters at homo. Claris Adams, opponent of Senator Watson for the republican long term nomination, wound up an active campaign with a statement attacking the public stand of Joseph B. Kealing, republican national committeeman. in support of Watson a's “indefensible. Adams, who has stumped the state from one end to the other hut ling darts at the political record of Watson, contended the party organization of any of its members should keep hands off the primary race and let the voters make their own selections. Unable to carry out his plans to return to Indiana for a few speeches in the closing days of the campaign. Senator Watson remained in Washington and issued a perfunctory statenv-nt expressing eonfidenoe in the outcome and thanking his pel it - cal friends for their support. The Adams faction is counting on consolidating all the political foes Watson has made and all the disaffected groups of the party behind the candidacy of Adams. In some quarters, however, it is believed Adams has not strengthened his chances by his repeated attacks on Watson. The Watson workers assert the Adams campaign has been “one ot mud-slinging and nothing more During the campaign Watson made but one speech in Indiana and in that he ignored the attacks on his political record made by Adams. In the race for the republican short term senatorial nominatioin. th* managers of Senator Robinson ar,, predicting that his vote will be consistently strong in practically all sections of the state. A. (1. Graham. South Bend, attorney. is looked upon to poll substantial vote in northern Indiana and Oswald Ryan, of Anderson, has admittedly developed strength in central and eastern Indiana. Comparatively little enthusiasm has been aroused by the wet cam paign of Ward Hiner, who has toured the state in his big red and white Ims to consolidate sentiment against the Volstead laws. Dr. James •Norri-l, Indianapolis negro physician, is a fifth candidate for the republican short term nomination. Failure of any one nf the candi-
