GIRLSELECT NET CAPTAIN Mildred Worthman Named Leader Os I). H. S. (Jiris Team Next Season Mildred Worthiuuii, star player on ttic Imcalur high school ((iris* basketball team this year, was selected, recently, to act as captain of the girls’ team next year. Miss Worthman’s selection was unanimous. Several Kames have been scheduled for the Kiris’ team next year, and Miss Helen Stephenson, head of the girls’ physical training department, said today that the local school would be represented by a strong team next year. Eight major letters wttc awarded to girls this year. Those receiving the high award are: Mildred Worthman. Lillian Worthman. Eleanor Pumphrey, Helen Farr, Catherine Nichols, Violet Brickley, Dorothy Peterson anti Heretta Elzey. Four received minor letters. They are Geraldine Hower, Geraldine Andrews. Isabelle Peterson and Delores Elzey. Most of the first team will be graduated this spring. Miss Stephenson said. Those who have played their last season for the local high school are: Catherine Nichols, Eleanor Pumphrey, Helen Farr and Heretta Elzey. Miss Pumphrey was captain of this year’s team. Roth Miss Pumphrey and Miss Farr made good records as forwards of this year’s team. o Preble Team To Play Colored Giants, May 9 Preble. April 30.—(Special to Daily Democrat* —The Preble baseball team will open its regular season with a game against the Leland Colored Giants, of Fort Wayne, a week from Sunday, May ft. Preble met and defeated the Ciants on the former’s diamond last season and the Giants -wanted this gam,, to get revenge. But the locals are out , to start the regular season with a victory. Preble will play the Decatur Greys In a practice tilt Sunday. No admission will be charged and the lic is cordially invited. Luttman and I indeman probably will be on the mound in the Decatur game. o— Grays To Hold First Practice Here Sunday The Decatur Grays will hold their first practice session of the season, Sunday afternoon, at 1:30 o’clock, on the South Ward school diamond, weather conditions permitting. The Grays did not practice last Sunday on account of the cold weather. The following players and all others wishing to try out for the team are requested to report for practice Sunday afternoon: Acker, Rash. Holston, Spangler, Lammert, Macklin and Batters. o Zeke Barnes went wild in the sixth inning and passed in the-run that helped the Braves knock off the Giants. 4 to 2.
