The young man was rendered unconscious in the fall and It was feared his skull was fractured, but an examination by an Ossian physician disclosed no fracture. The youth was suffering from a concussion «f the brain, however. Mr. Bailey was standing up on the truck, which was being driven by Earl Waters. He lost, his balance when the truck struck a rough place in the pavement and fell. After regaining consciousness, the youth started up town, but he suffered convulsions and was taken home again. Heffner Is Making i Great Success In Fort Houston Band Friends and relatives of Mason 1 | Heffner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Phil | Heffner, of .Monroe, have learned ol ■ that young man’s success in the Unit- , ed States Military Band at Fort Sam ] Houston, ut Houston. Texas. Mr Hess-J tier formerly was a member of several bands in this vicinity and. la-t December, he enlisted in the United States army. hi a short time. Mr. Heffuer was transferred to Fort Houston and was immediately placed in the 100-piece military band. He playa first slide trombone in that band. The kort Houston band is constantly in demand and Mr. Hoffner staled in a letter to his mother, recently, that he liked the! work very much Band to Present Pageant The band, at present, is working on a pageant which will be presented in Houston next week. The pageant is] entitled. “The Siprit of the Argonne.”] Mr. Heffner also stated that the band gave a concert every Wednesday night at 8 o’clock, over radio station WADI, at San Antonio, Texas. I Mr. Heffner is 19 years of age and 1 has served in the United States army for about six months. His many friends | wish him success in his future work ' :—o Berne H. S. Orchestra Withdraws From Contest Berne, April 23. —The Berne high school oiehestra has withdrawn from | the annual state music contests to be held at Indianapolft May 7 aud 8. in ' connection with National Music Week. Only seven other orchestras were entered in the contest, and the local ! school officials decided that the field of competition was too small to warrant the expense of taking the musicians to Indianapolis.
