.Alpha Literary Society Heats Arenas; Team Picked For County Meet Berno. April 15.—The Alpha literary society of the Berne high school deefated the Arena society in a track and field nipet held here Monday evening. 71 to 43. The meet was held for the purpose of selecting the athletes to represent Berne in thp annual Adams County high school track and field meet at Decatur next Saturday. The rivalry was much closer Ilian the score would indicate, both societies flying their colors and cheering their contestants in the various events. Marvin Lehman, veteran Berne runner, cornered the most points, gleaning three firsts and on e second place. He placed first in the 440-yd. dash, mile and half-mile run and second in the 220-yd. dash. In field • and track events first place counts for five points, second place for three and third place for one point. Lehman runs in good form and gave all manner of indications that he had plenty of energy left should he get crowded at the county meet Saturday.
Karl Winteregg and Kermith Baumgartner tied for second place for total points, each getting two firsts and one second. Winteregg easily cleared the bar in the running high jump, die also jumped in good form in the running broad jump, and came in second in the 100-yil. dash. Baumgartner touched the tape first in the 100-yd. dash and again in the 220-yd. dash, and placed second for the running broad jump. Another G. E. Harmony Hoys dance. Masonic hall, Friday night.
